The running back situation

Can we depend on Julius Jones if we are going to make a serious run at a title?

I think it's time we took a hard look at the running back situation, I really can't see us going into the season with the same collection of backs we have now. I don't feel there's room on this roster for MB3, JJ and TT and I'm going to make a bold prediction:

Julius Jones won't be a dallas cowboy in 2006

The reason I feel this way is that I think that JJ and Parcells are cooking something up for a potential trade. He has talent but he's too fragile and I'm sick and tired of him being injured. He lacks toughness and isn't dependable, and when you play for a coach like Parcells that's not a good thing. The season is 16 games plus another potential 3 or 4 in the playoffs. So why keep a guy on this roster that we can't even count on for more than 8 games in a season? He's part of the reason that Bledsoe took a lot of hits and the pass protection was unbearable at times. Also he drops the ball a lot and we need a back that can make plays out of the backfield in the passing game if we are going to go anywhere.

Marion Barber the 3rd is more than proven he can move the chains and handle the job full time. He is also the better blocker/receiver. Also Tyson Thomson is a solid prospect and could be good compliment to MB3

I think we should trade JJ for a 2nd round pick right now and wash our hands clean right now while we can get value for him. In fact we should inquire about a pontential trade package involving JJ and Henson if we sign Harrington.

We can draft another back in the later rounds to develop or sign a veteran or young back cut from another team during training camp.

Any thoughts?

See we always thought this guy was Nors, and now we have proof!

Here is Nors post on a nameless board

Trade Julius Jones

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm tired of him being injured. Can we count on him for more than 8 games? He tends to drop the ball at bad times. We have MB3 who has more than proven he can move chains better and can handle the RB job. MB3 also is the better blocker/receiver.

I trade JJ for a 2nd:
Then trade out of #18 for an early 2 and add a #4, #5.

I said MB3 > Julius Jones, once you accept that premise its time to move on. Julius Jones can't be counted on.

I think we could get a 2nd for him. Tyson Thompson and draft another back like Hall,

I'm not concerned at all with MBIII on the roster. He should be even better this year with another season experience and the off season program. If anything - JJ can back him up

Yes, the issue is serious as you say. I started a thread that addressed my worries about our RB situation not long ago.

However, I will guarantee you that JJ will be on the roster for the entire year. He will get this year to prove himself once and for all.

Unless he is speaking from the future. IMO this same thread will be bumped 365 days from now, based on Julius' performance this year. Now I would put money on that...

Not trying to be argumentive here, I hope you are right. MBIII never struck me as someone I would like to see starting. He was ok, but nothing more IMO.

Serviceable? Sure, more than serviceable. Not someone you have to game plan for. JJ is a threat, but of course if he nursing an injury on the bench then not so much of a threat.

I think it's a concern only if we rely on Julius Jones to carry the load when he's proven he's not capable of doing so. We need to stop kidding ourselves into thinking he's going to be an elite back in this league when all he does is tease us with one big game each season and mediorce performances in the rest (when he's healthy).

MB3 is more talented and explosive....TT could be a great compliment in a classic 1-2 punch.

Julilus Jones is on notice!

I would take LenDale White and Santonio Holmes in the draft and see what I could deal Julius Jones and Terry Glenn for, or course with Glenn finally getting the contract he deserved it's clear he is going to be kept as a Cowboy but at least Santonio Holmes should be drafted and LenDale White is going to be a beast in the NFL, I would value him higher than even Reggie Bush personally based on how many carries he got and what a tough runner he was, then again thats just me.

Hmm, remembering now the Panthers game the Cowboys might want to hold on the Jones to see what he becomes...:D

You guys are really full of it. JJ will be fine. We have 3 good backs and we have NO NEED to WASTE a pick on another. Its like those whinning about needing to spend our first in a week WR draft on a WR. JUST PLAIN DUMB.
