After one season with a decimated defense? No they should have cut him after the first td they gave up.

But yeah they were too hasty and it has nothing to do with what he has done in new orleans.

Rob Ryan was and still is a mediocre defensive coordinator. The real Rob Ryan defense was on display in the last few minutes against the Pats, also against the Jets, Seahawks, Rams. He didn't do anything here that was special except fold like a cheap suit late in the game. He coaches mediocre defense and always will and he's also a major 'look at me, distraction on the sidelines' guy.

I don't think things were as juveniles as target hunting for a sounding board. I don't think that Rob Ryan met the coaching description of a Jerry Jones chosen coach.

I agree not enough Dave Campo in him.

Agreed, the switch back to the 43 was the second fastest thing we've done that also screwed us over.

Didn't make sense then, still doesn't.

It was a poor fit for Garrett. To his credit, he worked with it. I was shocked when we hired him. Garrett just doesn't fit with attention grabbing assistants like Ryan and DeCam.

I was for Rob Ryan going. His unit was underachieving. If they ever played as good as the Aint's did their 1st year with inferior talent? He wouldn't have been fired. But when you're on the sidelines creating a circus and being a character and your unit is one of the worst in the league? You have to go......

Now I wasn't against switching the 3-4. That was silly.

I think he may have learned some things and maybe changed some things after the firing. He's definitely gone after bigger, more physical tackling CB's in New Orleans. He got rid of some junk like the fake-out robber blitz and basically giving up the free slant pass.

He got exposed against the Pats last year though. But, seemed to learn from it. I think our offense was exposing him quite a bit, but we couldn't stop the Saints offense so it became a moot point.

I think we'll see more of what he's about now. And I think it may not have mattered...he may have never changed some things if he was still employed with the Cowboys and may have needed the firing and the delay in getting hired by a new team to humble him and re-think how he runs a defense.

With that said, I also think getting rid of Marinelli after this year would likely be a bad move as well.

They needed someone to blame, they blamed him.

Exactly. After 3 years of no playoffs, Jerry needed a scapegoat. Although the true problem lies in the head coach and most know this. But it's much easier to fire a coordinator and replace him. You fire a head coach and usually he brings in a whole new staff. Although with our quirky owner/GM, we sometimes hire the coordinators before the head coach i.e. Garrett before Wade.

2 years was not enough for Rob. I think he should have gotten another year.

But his defenses had faults. We generated no turnovers at all and never got anyone off the field. And our defenders seemed to be very confused at times. Especially at times having too many or too little players on the field. That was happening in the last month of the season and that's unacceptable.

But to fire him and hire Kiffin, whose defenses at USC were disgustingly bad, especially against Oregon, was a huge head scratcher. A guy who has not been relevant for over a decade. And they quickly realized this and demoted him after one season.

But never under Rob were we as bad as last year's defense.
