Now before I start let me just say I believe that secondaries in the NFL are only as good as the Dline. If a QB has all day to pass then they can beat the best corners and safeties all day. But this secondary is still pathetic.

I was just looking at the players we had in the secondary. I thought about where they played college ball and where we're they drafted. So here is the list.

Brandon Carr Grand Valley State
Barry Church Toledo USA
Orlando Scandrick Boise State 5th round
BW Webb William and Mary 4th round
JJ Wilcox Georgia Southern 3rd round
Jeff Heath Saginaw Valley St. USA

Every one wants to blame Kiffin, which he does deserve some of the blame but a new DC won't change anything with these players. We need to invest more into the draft in the Secondary and get big school players. Sure you can find small school gems but you don't need to make it a habit to try find them. Most of the times there is a reason why these players played at small schools. I understand that even big schools have players that bust, I just found it odd that this team last night had a secondary full of small school players.

Please, they traded up for Mr. SEC and he is one of the biggest turds in the secondary.

It's the pass rush . We have none . Leaves DBS on island way to long . Revis wouldn't even have a chance .

i thought you were going to laugh at the way they all stood around Earl Bennett in the end zone and allowed him to score while they played ring around the Earlzie

I don't blame Kiffin per se. I blame the guy who decided to hire Kiffin and go to a cover 2 without the right personnel to run it. I still don't believe there is an NFL quality safety on this roster anywhere, a glaring problem for Kiffin's defense. The CBs were drafted to play press not zone, and we had no where near the depth needed for a true 4-3 defense line rotation. Add in the injuries and the fact that Jerry managed to give millions to two guys who never played a down for this team (lucky for them) and you have disaster.

Blame Kiffin all you want, but all he can do is try to pound all these square pegs into round holes. The guy who had to scapegoat last year's defense to cover for his pet HC is responsible for this mess.

Never said these guys had to be all 1st rounders and even stated in my post that even big schools have busts which I have yet to call claiborne. Just stating that maybe we should look more at big school players more and stop trying to find the small school diamonds

It sure looked to me like McCown was getting rid of the ball fairly quickly last night. He was well protected but it wasnt like he was holding the ball for 5 seconds on every pass attempt.

The secondary is lost and confused its not all on the line. There is no excuse for giving up that kind of passing yardage.

I agree man. It wasnt trying to come off rude.
I think you and I are the only ones who still think Claiborne can get it done. Im happy with Mo, Carr and Claiborne. Its very hard to guage them when the WRs have 30 seconds to run routes.

I agree and it's just going take a few years to get the right players and to develop. It was a stupid move to have such a drastic scheme change. Just wasn't the right time.

Also who can you hire to replace Kiffin with with these guys on the Dline and secondary.

Agreed but what other team has the entire secondary from small schools. I would like to see a safety and another CB from a big school

The secondary is just fine, the pass rush is non existent. Dallas needs to blow all 4 picks on the Dline next year.

The secondary is beyond fine. Heath is terrible and so is webb. I'm fine drafting DL if they are best player but we could use another Safety and or CB and I hope they come from big name schools.

The defense is suffering from the same thing it has the last few years.

There is no confidence on the DBs, so they play off coverage. That prevents the pass rush from having time to get there.

On the flip side, when they try to play tight, the pass rush never gets there lol

around and around we go

I dont like Heath as a starter, but he is young and I think could develop into a pretty good ST and backup variety Safety. I have seen enough of Webb. He was a waste of a pick, and doesn't belong in the NFL. He looks utterly lost 99% of the time on the field.

I think thats Jerry trying be cute.

Ever since they got Larry Allen from Sonoma St and got a lot of credit for finding him he almost makes a habit of trying to find small school guys.

I agree. Just look at our draft history. It's like he gets to the 3rd or 4th round and just picks small school guys.
