I'm not going to put much hope on a guy who lost his job on the worst defense in the NFL to a career journeyman like Mark Roman.

Its been quite obvious to anyone who's followed this team that heading into last offseason they had a glaring hole at FS, and have for quite some time. Despite the fact that they had ample cap space the Cowboys chose not to address it, or rather believed in a pie in the sky scenario that a 5th round draft pick rookie was going to solve the problem. They even had a gift when a team released a better than average FS like Dwight Smith right before training camp for anyone to sign to a discount price. They were naive and foolish, and now they have to pay the price.

I agree the only thing your leaving out is that I dont even think smith was ever interested in coming here. He has former coordinators in a couple of spots, he could just play in the same defense for a new team. So that is what he did.

I really dont think we ever had an option of signing him.

Corey chavous and darren sharper two years ago would have really helped. I would have loved to see them give money to sharper, roy and sharper would have been a nice tandem.

The Cowboys signed veteran safety Tony Parrish last week for depth behind Davis and Williams. Backups Pat Watkins and Abram Elam are in their first full seasons, and Parrish has the ability to play both strong and free safety.
Parrish was inactive against New Orleans, and Parcells said it's too early to tell what role he'll play in the defense because he's still picking up the Cowboys' system.

But clearly, Parcells believes his starters need to improve.
"You just got to hope the results will be better," Parcells said of his safeties. "I'm not pinning this loss on them. We had quite a bit to go around."
