I hate to start a thread about one play but I can’t find anything on line about MM’s thinking here.

Anyone heard anything from him about his thoughts on that kick?

Yeah it was poorly executed. I just don’t understand the thinking behind it.

FFS, just kick it off. As far as probability goes, attempting an onside kick versus kicking the ball back to the Browns with a long field would favor kicking the ball deep even with our marshmallow defense.

I almost wonder if it came off the kickers foot wrong, and they had something else in mind. Really had no chance unless the returner completely botched it.

agree with you
At that I was like WTH?

They showed Dak and I think he said ‘what was that’?

It wasnt good

but its at the bottom of issues right now

Not really....our special teams have been horrible this year....

Pollard is not a returner....

Really poor timed fakes....

Kicker is inconsistent...w/ FGs

I got to agree. Time to sit Pollard. Absolutely no way he should be returning kicks. Who calls off a kick when it lands at the 10?????? LOL WOW Unreal.

Don’t think it was supposed to be a squib, he just hit it wrong. Still a terrible decision

Agree. Super ridiculous and pointless... We have no feet at all now. We've blown them all off.

I didn't hear anything post game but when I saw it live I thought they were trying to catch the Browns lacking and mimic the kick they made earlier.

Let’s be clear - we didn’t deserve to win this game. But we had it within our grasp. Those two plays lost us the game - the horrible squib kick and the Beckham touchdown. If Aldon Smith makes that tackle for a 10 yard loss, we get the ball back and is there anyone here who doubts that we drive the field and win the game?

Just way way overthinking...,the hard part/luck part had already happened getting the scores quickly enough to make a 3 point game. 3 2 point conversations plus the td’s and then completely over analyzing. Just kick the ball normally and take the momentum and trust to get a stop.

that kick completely changed the play calling offensively and basically put them in fg range....lF it was a busted kick by zuerlein ok- he’s to blame but I think they were trying replicate the kick before which was executed perfectly. Odds of Cleveland playing it so poorly again/us getting the right bounce is so low.

just dumb dumb dumb. Still be nice for the d to get a stop but still

The thinking was dumb
