This is a very good article from the mothership. If opens up talking history of the draft and about players from Texas drafted compared to other states.

It closes talking about draft strategies, and how is may pertain to Dallas.
Some interesting info here. Not so much about the Cowboys themselves, until the end of the article. But just some interesting facts.

Such as players from Texas has more players in HOF than any other team.

TCU's Max Duggan. For the average fan who doesn't break down film for a living like Brugler, it's hard to fathom how the runner-up in the Heisman Trophy voting, who improbably led the Horned Frogs to the national championship game, is a likely third-day pick, meaning the later rounds. He accounted for 41 total touchdowns as a senior and possesses NFL size at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, especially in this day and age when quarterbacks are smaller than ever.
Jerry said we are drafting a QB this year. Some of us have been saying that for a long time. You have to start taking chances if you want to hit on one. Otherwise you give up the farm to position yourself for the top pick. IMO Duggan would be a good one to spend a day 3 pick on. He wouldn't be expected to start for a couple of years. By then you should know if he can play in this league or not.

It's actually a HUGE advantage for Dallas day, lots of local talent outside if your top 30 visits .

Places like green bay just don't have that local pool to bring in..

drafted mike white? not sure how different a 5th-7th round selection is any better than a UNDFA where did Nooch and Grier come from? whoever's that quote is about Duggan its laughable many actual Heisman winners who were even better in college were busts in the NFL. not sure how the runner up with gaudy stats means thing..

Im not aginst drafting a qb but they better have more potential and upside then the journeymen vet you can add anytime to your roster. i mean we see Trey lance got what 3 high draft pick and taken 3rd overall and hasnt shown squat yet.. so we getting one in the 3rd or 4th round isnt going to make then just simply Get a qb in the draft somehow helps to bridge the gap between Dak and whomever next.

other teams 16-32 cane even find starter in the draft like the jets failing over and over ,titans, Washington, Browns and many more..they are picking high and missing big,.

im all for finding the next dak or Romo but doubt it will be that easy.

hmm I believe the state of Texas is one of the largest states in the United States plus a huge population and footballs been king for very long time

so when I mean there's a lot more people, players ,high schools, colleges etc

given the vast size it makes sense that you might find more have come out of there because it is more to pick from?? I'm just saying this to add for the reason this might skew stats.

Did you read it? Did you read the part where California has 9 million more people than Texas. And that NY and Florida are not far behind in the population of Texas.
Ohio and Pennsylvania are also hotbeds for football talent.
It was comparing Texas to the more higher populated states and hot football prospects from history. It was not comparing it to Rhode Island.

Coaches in Texas have to be full time employees of the district...most states hire guys off the streets. Texas is the king of HS football. Where else do you have 70 million dollar stadiums and assistant coaches making close to 100k a year. Not to mention head coaches making 150k...it may be a bit much, but I loved it during my 14 years as HC!

Being local is an advantage absolutely, I bet a lot of Texan natives go undrafted every year that could have become players in this league, it's all about opportunity.
Not just specific to Texas, but there is an advantage in Tejas, regionally has a lot of schools producing talent like BYU for starters most recently.

Native Texan here. The BIG high schools around the state... most play a pro-style offense.

Don't feel too bad about us Texicans and out football and those who make it king here (your post seems to lament our Texas HS football devotion)! On the flip side very, very few Texans play or have played in the NHL. It's Texas, we do football here.

Probably not very many other states that have dedicated HS football stadiums seating 15,000 to 20,000 and even more fans and there's lots of them in Texas . . . all over Texas. There are dozens of stadiums seating > 10,000 . I've been to dozens of Texas HS football games with more than 30,000 in attendance and to one with 49,990 (single game attendance record). Football is life here!
