I don't know if he personally thought he would make it based on these quotes.

I agree. It was surprising that Carter was invited to work out for the Dolphins back when Parcells was in charge in Miami. I doubt Parcells saw him as starter material even then, but maybe good enough to be a backup.

QCar was immensely talented but he wasn;t the right guy to be in Dallas.
Lights too bright. A shame that he fell apart.

BP loved his talent and even got him to the Jets.

I would love someday to be the one to do the 30 for 30 on Tony Romo and Jason Witten. I know I can tell this story better than what the team put out last year. One way or another someday I am going to make one on Romo and Witten, officially or unofficially!

I just feel like this fell completely flat and was a wasted chance at telling a great story.

Yeah man, killer. Lesson should be that you never pass on a potential franchise QB, ever even if you already have one.

Personally, I still feel Carter had more athletic talent than Romo....he was mobile, had a strong arm, was accurate...tons of potential.
Unfortunately, like many others, he was his own undoing---had nothing to do with any lack of ability.

actually he wanted merriman but the jones's refused to do business with his agent so they convinced Parcells to take ware.

Yeah I think Spears was in the running. He wanted to trade up for Spears after the Ware selection also but apparently we knew better.

Substance or not, Quincy "Bong" Carter was just flat our terrible. One of the most innacurate QB's I have EVER seen. AFLAC was the nickname that his own team mates gave him or do you forget? Remember them saying that "he isnt a good practice player"? The guy was just plain terrible as a QB. If he didnt have his legs he would have had nothing at all. He NEVER should have been drafted, he NEVER should have been handed the starting job.

In review.

Repeat yourself with characterization. Assertion of hyperbole. Hyperbolic characterization. Hyperbolic characterization. Repeat yourself. Weird hyperbolic fantasy. Gratuitous declaration without basis. Repeat yourself.

Can you imagine how bad of shape this franchise would be if they hadn't stumbled upon Romo....last season almost EVERY year for sure IMO.

And we're setting ourselves up for that post Aikman redux right now...you wait too long, you're SOL and left with the talent disaster of QBs brought in after Aikman, etc. One "wrong" hit to Romo and we're looking at last season again. I would rather Romo tutor our future QB than JG and Wade who are clueless.(altering the stagnant scheme and passing play-calls to the team's advantage, etc.)

That's exactly what it was. Carter had some good athletic abilities that showed in camp, but he was immature and never developed the good head on a pair of shoulders that you need to be a good leader. He felt threatened by the team bringing in Vinny Testaverde, for crying out loud. Testaverde was in the twilight of his career and there was no way he was being brought in to be the future guy. He was obviously supposed to be a good backup, but Carter felt footsteps. He dealt with his insecurities by doing drugs. That's what did him in, not innate abilities. I have no doubt if Carter had had a solid head on his shoulders and a Jerry Rice kind of work ethic, he could have played many years in the league, at least as a quality backup and maybe even as a starter. For a while it looked like it would work. He did quarterback the team to a winning record and playoff berth. He had that really good game in which we came from behind against the Giants. It just wasn't meant to be. He had some of what you need in a QB, but he didn't have "it."

Link?

To my understanding, Coach Parcells had a problem with the Postons, who represented Merriman.
