The Thing About Playing Keepaway

The defense is a problem. Not only the DL but we are weak at MLB. Hitchens isn't a full time starter in this league.

Some fans knew this though and some fans just put their goggles on and believed that a bunch of no names and cast offs would gel into an effective group.

The reality is that this team is going to struggle to stop teams in close games in the 4th Q. They don't generate enough pressure to keep QBs uncomfortable back there so when a team is forced to pass given a game situation, they likely will find success because the combo of no pass rush and then Marinelli playing softer coverages to prevent big plays will result in methodic but effective drives.

And no, I don't believe getting Lawrence back changes that. I like Lawrence a lot and think he's a very good player but he's not dominant enough to change the complexion of a DL.
I think that Lawrence helps a TON. Swapping out Crawford at LE for Lawrence is a monumental upgrade.

When you pair Lawrence with Mayowa, who played very well yesterday (5 pressures and a sack), we may have something with what we are seeing from McClain and Collins in the middle.

Not happy at all with Tyrone Crawford's play yesterday, looked lost.

Yeah, that was BS by Lane. His bad, CC.
Maybe it was posted early in the first quarter?

Dak's passer rating was 69.4

By far the lowest passer rating Dallas has had in many years vs the Giants.

Mark just doesn't up and misquote almost anything. He is a very articulate reporter, and call up tons of stats in almost all situations. I'd want to see an official rendering before blowing that guy off...just saying.

But Dak did have to make considerable business decisions in throwing the ball away...from personal observation.

I am not so sure. Hope you are right but I think Lawrence was so productive last year because he had Hardy on the other side and teams were focused on him. I think it's going to be Lawrence that sees more chips, doubles, etc.

I think this is going to be another year where when push comes to shove, we just won't be able to generate real, consistent pressure on QBs. Manning, on that winning drive, just stood back there without any real heat at all. That's the sign of a real pass rush.........

Google is your friend.

Mark is wrong. He quoted a false stat.

I didn't have a big issue with Brown on that play.

I guess its just a pet peeve of mine that our cornerbacks not matter who the corners are or who the db coach is, have been playing this same coverage for the past 10 years. Refuse to turn around.

Because Romo has been the passer the past years lol.

Agree playing keep away works if you score TDs......FGs will get you beat. Thus the loss yesterday. After kicking the last FG, you could see this loss developing due to the poor defense as well. Too bad Dak should have had 2 td passes and a win.

That is one of the theories. Even so, it should help others to be freed up if he is doubled or chipped.

Lawrence looked great this preseason. Gave Tyron fits in practice. Similar size and production as Vernon.

If we could ever get Gregory to stay on the field....we may have something.

Prove it was wrong, and leave the ever present personality out of your discussions. Talk what is stated, pal.

I just linked you to the box score. There are now two links in this thread that show his rating.

Really?

I saw it in the NFL Gamebook but here is his actual stats from the game.

http://www.nfl.com/player/dakprescott/2555260/profile

Think a lot of that particular rating evolved around no touchdowns thrown and having to throw away quite a few balls keeping away from sacks?

As to his throws, there also were quite a few missed by receivers or dropped as well...think?

THAT is a discussion.

He may have looked great in preseason but I recall that some people pointed out he looked pretty mediocre in the preseason games he played.

I just think there's a bit of wishful thinking on your part. And I like Lawrence, a lot. I thought it was bizarre people wrote him off after his rookie year. But he's not a pass rush terror from the edge.

I am not saying that I think Dak played bad, I actually am happy with his performance. I was just correcting that tweet's quoted qb rating which was inaccurate.

Fair, but I'm not making a final observation on the initial tweet...that guy is hard to find wrong. I don't know the details of the tweet. But it was an indicator at some point, I can bet on that...

I'm just telling you, that he must have posted that rating at half time or before.
I'm not trying to discredit mark lane. He was probingly being accurate but not at the end of the game.

The official passer rating for the game was 69.4

It's what all the sports sites and the NFL have listed and I just checked it on my Passer Rating calculator.
Just google any passer rating calculator and punch it in.

here's one
http://www.footballguys.com/qbrating.htm

Anyway, in a one game vacuum, passer rating can be deceiving. It tells a ton over time, but a bounce here or there can affect a one game rating.

For example, there were a couple of passes that could have been caught (but they would have been great catches) for passible TDs yesterday. There were also at least a couple of passes that could have been picked.
Either way, up or down, the single game QB rating would have been affected.
