I think if my 44 year old butt was cut from some team and I had CB or LB experience, someone would suggest bringing me in for a look.
Every time I looked up, a guy wearing No. 29 was knocking the ball away from a receiver or making an interception. That would be Stoney Woodson, a seventh-round pick out of South Carolina. The rookie doesn't seem to be overwhelmed at all in his first camp. And he's seizing the opportunity to have more reps with starters Aaron Ross and Corey Webster out with injuries. Mike Garafolo is driving the Woodson bandwagon, but I've decided to hop aboard.
ALBANY, N.Y. -- At first, it might not have seemed like a compliment when coach Tom Coughlin mentioned Stoney Woodson "has been very noticeable" at Giants training camp lately. That's because cornerbacks are often noticed for bad plays, like when they get beat badly on deep balls.
But then, Coughlin added this kicker: "And that's a good thing."
That's what happens when a defensive back knocks away passes or intercepts them, which Woodson has done repeatedly the past couple of days.
Wednesday night, he hauled in a ball that ricocheted off the hands of Ramses Barden.
During the early practice Wednesday, Woodson knocked away a quick hook to wide receiver Shaun Bodiford, stayed with Derek Hagan on another hook pattern and was all over Mario Manningham on a deep route, forcing Eli Manning, who was locked onto Manningham the whole way, to look elsewhere.
On Monday, the seventh-round pick made an athletic play to grab a ball in the corner of the end zone for what would have been an incredible interception if he had gotten both feet in bounds. Still, it was an impressive play.
Suddenly, the gaps between the receivers and Woodson are a lot smaller.
"I'm seeing more of that from myself," Woodson said. "Every day, I'm building off every meeting, every play, every piece of film I watch."
Woodson isn't the only rookie cornerback making plays. Sixth-round pick DeAndre Wright, who is likely fighting with Woodson for only one roster spot, has also broken up a few passes recently, including one on Monday on a deep in to Manningham.
Wright said secondary coach Peter Giunta instructs the corners to "mirror" the receivers, which is a lot easier to do when you know what your responsibilities are.
"When you get in the playbook and know what you're doing it allows you to get out there on the field and show your skills," Wright said. "It just helps me out that much more so I don't have to think twice out there. I just react to everything."
Wright left the morning practice after hyperextending his knee. Tests revealed no major damage.
Woodson and Wright have been getting more reps because starting CBs Corey Webster (hip) and Aaron Ross (leg) have been sidelined for the past couple of practices. Webster said his injury is the same one that limited him in the spring but is not related to his hip surgery from before the 2007 season.

Wasnt this guy a first rounder in the Spears/Ware draft? Maybe we should have taken a look at him for the backup NT job??
Yes, he's been a huge bust for the Texans and is just now coming off of hernia surgery. Chargers are probably just going to take a free look and cut him since it is conditional.RicInAustin;2914441 said:San Diego Chargers Travis Johnson traded, for 2010 conditional sixth-round pick

And another article by Mike Garafalo that Mosely linked to his blurb

I did notice he didn't play last week because of an ankle injury. But with one game left you would think they would keep him around unless they are trying to sneak him on the practice squad as Joe mentioned.LeonDixson;2914453 said:Sounds like he might have either been a victim of the numbers game or had something going on off the field that hasn't surfaced. Of course players can look all-pro in TC and not be worth a damn in a real game too, so who knows.
I like Matt Mosely, I really do. In fact, he and my brother sat together at lunch in High School. But I very rarely buy what he sells, particularly when it's about a team other than the Cowboy's inside the NFCE.cowboyjoe;2914393 said:who is he speedkilz? im not familar with him;
i know he is a cb from south carolina i think, but dont think he is real fast or overly big
runs a sub 4.4 i think, what did matt mosley say about him?
because sometimes what teams do, they release players the 2nd cut before the last one, so he might can sneak through, then the team brings that player back onto the practice squad

Claims take 24 hours, so if anyone picks those guys up it will be tomorrow.BAT;2914758 said:Stryker Sulak has to be better than Tearrius George. Same for Stoney Woodson vs. the 2 scrubs the Cowboys just signed.
If you are going to bring in camp bodies, bring some in w/a bit of potential.
