I can't argue this, but there is a difference between corporate America and the American media.

I had heard (I have no idea if it is the truth or not) that Tebow was dating Bill Bates daughter at one time, and that Bill really likes him.

Most people do who know him, but a page dedicated to tracking one guy, and on a national sports site? That's going too far.
I don't like Tebow cause he's a flat out liar. it's all an act. he used to date Lucy Pinder(google her:) ) and said last year that he was still a virgin cause he was saving himself for marriage. i'm so sure the king of Florida the college and the guy who was dating Lucy Pinder is still a virgin. he just says all these things to make it look like he does no wrong.

I see where you are coming from, but I think the delineation between corporate America and American media doesn't exist when ESPN comes into the conversation. They profit directly from the hyperbole they create if the public is willing to buy into it.

Other than that one specific example, the difference is as you state. The website baffles me. Talk about media interference with a team. What would be the reaction within the team if ESPN-D created a Dez Bryant watch website. The site creates tensions in the locker room and needs to be removed. Orton probably loooooooves the idea.

I remember the interview where he was asked that question and I find it to be completely inappropriate. Why isn't that question asked of other players?

I don't care if he is or isn't. I don't know if he is lying or not. I suspect he isn't lying. But you believe whatever you want.

Oh, and if I remember right, Pinder is the girl with the giant boobs? Was photographed with him, but was never his girlfriend. I remember that came out after he was asked that question too.

ESPN is corporate alright, but they are still mainstream media through and through.

Regardless, I think the page is a poor idea and would regardless of the player.

I am very religious, and I don't get this. Are you guys saying he is being hyped because he is religious? I have to tell you, I would find that a refreshing reason for hype because it is so unlikely. I'm sorry but from where I sit, mainstream media hate religion and wouldn't want to do anything but mock it.

Nope .... I am saying that most people (like Rampage) hate him because he is religious/has strong moral beliefs.

They cannot grasp that someone is really like that ..... so they assume he is a liar and a fraud.

I know you and a few others just cannot stand the hype ..... but there are a great many that hate him because of his moral upbringing.

I hope he takes the league by storm ..... I am a big fan of his because of his moral beliefs and because I think a man of his character will refuse to fail.

Tim Tebow to Damaryius Thomas might turn into something special.

Colt McCoy to Carlton Mitchell is another duo I'll be watching.

I get the angst. It's frustrating. But you guys are ruining this thread.

Now, could someone please tell me what Tim Tebow ate for breakfast this morning?

I just think he is dreamy.

As far as hoping he does well or fails just because of what he believes...maybe it is just me but I find that kind of silly.

If the guy does well it is because he is a hard worker and gets the chances...then that is a good thing.
If he he does not do well it will not be because he was lazy and did not give it his all, it will just be that he was not good enough.

Whether he believes one way or another has nothing to do with it...it will come down to hard work, ability to learn and talent.

I couldn't even understand why ESPN felt the need to stalk LeBron James, but now they've got a Tebow stalker? It's a new low for them. I support him and am glad he is the way he is about his religious beliefs, but this is hilarious. Great guy, not going to be a great quarterback though. Hope for the best, but expecting the worst Timmy.

Many men of character have a refuse to fail work ethic and mentality...and go out and fail.

There are loads of kids in college that have that attitude and character only to get to the NFL and fail.

This Tebow hype has hit a new all-time low...which will surely be surpassed very soon.

Unbelievable. The sad thing is that I like the kid. But this hyper-hype is going to hurt him, I think.

We are in the "build him up" phase of "build him up to tear him down."

ESPN manufactures drama because they know that drama sells.

personally i couldn't care less about the guy. other than hoping he plays badly if he ever plays dallas or plays well against miami (my mates a dolphins fan) i have no hopes for his success one way or the other. i'm not really sure why people want to see him succeed because he's religious but thats up to them. personally how religious someone is (or what religion they are) has no impact on my feelings towards them.
one thing i would say though is i'm getting pretty sick of having him rammed down my throat and thats coming from someone in scotland who never watches college football.

Only if they do not also have talent.

Tim does.

Remains to be seen.

He was a productive 3-year starter at a big school, and the scouts obviously felt he had first round physical talent. He's not quite a Peyton Manning/Philip Rivers level prospect but he's about as safe as a first round QB gets, IMO.

The majority of busts at the QB position are players who won the starting job in college late in their careers and then went crazy as seniors or coming out juniors. It's a lot easier to have one fluke good year than three or four, and its also easier to look good with ten other great guys around you then it is straight up against the other guy in practice everyday.

Further, most of the guys who were long term starters who busted did so due to poor work ethic, IMO. Cade McNown and Brain Brohm are both good examples. Tebow seems to have an excellent work ethic.

So, I expect Tebow to be a successful NFL starter, and that's my logic. You are of course entitled to disagree.

This is another example of the media going over the top. The only question (as usual) is why?

:money: That's why.

Tim Tebow is the embodiment of a popular sport and religion. ESPN did their due diligence in determining what type of marketing strategy they could undertake to accomplish their goal, which would attract new viewers/subscribers.

In my opinion, that goal was securing web visitors who appreciate Tebow's personal beliefs, but who also may not follow football and/or sports in general with the same interest. In other words, that webpage is a hook and Tebow's the bait.

If ESPN can perceive ANY discernible increase in viewership, readership, etc., based on this method, it will be completely justified in their minds. Tebow's just a means to an end.
