The Tim Tebow Hype Has Now Exceeded Ridiculous

I can think of very few college players I have rooted for to fail when they transition to the NFL. Not even guys from my two most hated schools, ASU or Notre Dame.

I don't think Tebow will be a good NFL QB, but if he proves me wrong, so be it. I can't say I root for players on other teams unless it is fantasy football, and even then I temper it.

I like Tebow just fine, but the hype is over the top. No one is so special they deserve a page all to themselves on ESPN. That's just crazy.

He's not quite a Peyton Manning/Philip Rivers level prospect but he's about as safe as a first round QB gets, IMO.
.

I think maybe 29 or 30 out of 32 teams disagree with you. He may pan out, but the kid carries a boatload of risk.

But Tebow has nothing to do with the hype.

no but you get sick of being force fed tebow. like i said i don't care if he succeeds or fails but the more the media build him up and hype him up the more annoying it gets and whether its fair or not (its not) tebow will be the main focus of the backlash - which the media will run with in order to continue making more money.

Not me ..... because I do not watch ESPN.

I never hear anything about Tebow except on this forum.

The problem you guys should have is with ESPN.

i don't live in america though remember, i couldn't watch espn even if i wanted to. just seems that everytime i go online to check anything about the sport i'm being told about denvers 3rd string quarterback.
again i have no vested interest in his success or failure but it irritates me that i'm being contstantly force fed the guy. zeroclub (post 34 in this thread) i think got it spot on and as you rightly said thats not tebows fault. it is unfortunately though the way these things tend to happen.

This is another example of the media going over the top. The only question (as usual) is why?

:money: That's why.

Tim Tebow is the embodiment of a popular sport and religion. ESPN did their due diligence in determining what type of marketing strategy they could undertake to accomplish their goal, which would attract new viewers/subscribers.

In my opinion, that goal was securing web visitors who appreciate Tebow's personal beliefs, but who also may not follow football and/or sports in general with the same interest. In other words, that webpage is a hook and Tebow's the bait.

If ESPN can perceive ANY discernible increase in viewership, readership, etc., based on this method, it will be completely justified in their minds. Tebow's just a means to an end.

Any answer other than the above quoted, is incorrect.

I like Tebow. I wish more people were as vociferous about and true to their faith as he was. It's amusing and quite telling that certain people would accuse Tebow of "lying" solely on grounds that they would be unable to live the lifestyle he professes.

Regarding his success or failure, I want everyone who enters the NFL to succeed, regardless of their religious inclinations.

My guess is that ESPN didn't give Tebow his own page because he is so special, but because they needed a way to optimize their site with new content to improve search engine rank.

Come on Z.
I love the guy's character as well, but it's comments like this that make me scratch my head.
You cannot really think that because Tebow has good character (like hundreds before him that have failed) that he will refuse to fail. We do know he'll give his all---like hundreds of others who have failed. I hope he does well, but the list is extremely long of incredibly high character people who have failed in this league....people with just as a high character as Tebow. This list of high character guys who have failed even included recrod breaking QBs....it is not a stretch. Still, I would have ahard time betting against him to play in the league, but maybe not star.

Nope .... I am saying that most people (like Rampage) hate him because he is religious/has strong moral beliefs.

They cannot grasp that someone is really like that ..... so they assume he is a liar and a fraud.

I know you and a few others just cannot stand the hype ..... but there are a great many that hate him because of his moral upbringing.

I hope he takes the league by storm ..... I am a big fan of his because of his moral beliefs and because I think a man of his character will refuse to fail.

I could care less about his religion. I just don't believe he can succeed at the NFL level.

Hype does not equal substance.

Why is it that whenever an ill-word is uttered against someone that is considered to be "moral" or "wholesome", the martyr complex kicks in? Is it not ok to hate Tim Tebow simply because he's a dirty Florida Gator, or because we see his stupid mug on ESPN nearly 24/7 during the college football season?

I'm sorry but from where I sit, mainstream media hate religion and wouldn't want to do anything but mock it.

Which is why there is exactly one politician on the national level who will admit to not being religious. If by MSM you mean Bill Maher then I'll give you that, but hes hardly mainstream.

I want Tim Tebow to fail because hes an obnoxious, overprivileged child who has just about always had everything given to him and who is in football by his own admission as a means of trying to convert people. The fact that hes overrated as heck and his sort of skillset rarely meets with success in the NFL just makes it that much easier to dislike how much hype hes receiving.

So I suppose you could say my dislike of him is based in part on religion, but more based on his actions in trying to spread those particular bigoted beliefs and how he does so than in him holding them.

I am very religious, and I don't get this. Are you guys saying he is being hyped because he is religious? I have to tell you, I would find that a refreshing reason for hype because it is so unlikely. I'm sorry but from where I sit, mainstream media hate religion and wouldn't want to do anything but mock it.

I don't want him to fail, but I do get a bit weary of the hype. He's a good guy who had a great college career, but perhaps we should just wait to see what he actually does before we get all sweaty about him. ESPN doesn't have much of substance to talk about, so they get into this BS. I don't lay this at Tebow's feet, but directly at ESPN. He's not a Dallas Cowboy, so I don't feel the need to be emotionally attached to him, but I wish him well in his other pursuits.

tebow has gotten way too much hype and i think he will fail. he played in the same system that produced alex smith. he only gets his attention because of his ridiculous christian promoting and how he goes on mission trips to third world countries for his spring breaks instead of doing more "normal" things.
