I saw an article today that rated the Top 10 Current College Football Coaches.

Here was their list:
  1. Pete Carroll (USC)
  2. Urban Meyer (Florida)
  3. Jim Tressell (Ohio St)
  4. Mack Brown (Texas)
  5. Bob Stoops (Oklahoma)
  6. Frank Beamer (Va Tech)
  7. Les Miles (LSU)
  8. Nick Saben (Alabama)
  9. Joe Paterno (Penn St)
  10. Chris Peterson (Boise St)
Not a bad list. Although I may juggle the positions of some of these guys, they are all at least top 15 guys, imo.
What do you think?

my school -- a tiny program -- had an opportunity to hire one of the Boise assistants for our HC position. Instead we went with some lame retread from w/in our lame-*** conference.

Ouch.

If Peterson and his family didn't love being at Boise so much, he would have gone the route of Urban Meyer long ago. It really is amazing what he has done there.

I would put Nick Saban ahead of Les Miles and closer to the top. Probably Top 3.

I was thinking Saben could be higher too, but we I'm sure we all would juggle that list a least a little.

Hey, five or six years ago, no way anyone would put Brown ahead of Stoops. But now it at least is debatable (and actually very common) with UT having gone 3-0 in its BCS games and OU having lost several in a row. I also like Patterson at TCU and Holtz at ECU and would be curious to see how they would do on a bigger stages.

Stoops hasn't been as good as of late. I like the head coach at Kansas too.

I don't know if I would include Les Miles in the Top 10. He won the National Championship with Saban's players and the team has started to go downhill since then. I've seen that happen before, I just can't remember exactly where...

I'd swap Brown with Tressell and keep the rest pretty much the same

I too would swap Brown and Tressell. I'd swap Meyer and Carroll and I'd move Peterson way up. I think Greg Schiano is a pretty good young football coach and I also think Shannon at Miami is good young coach. Too many people are counting out Spurrier IMO.

Mack ahead of Stoops? Both have won National titles but one has been to 3 other title games and about 5 more conference championships. I'de put Meyer ahead of Carroll also.

No coach has done less with more talent then Mack Brown.

Paterno is no longer a top coach either.

Pom Pom Pete Carroll is over rated. What does U$C have to show for all of those NFL draft picks and a roster stock piled with depth? They lose focus every year and lose to a unranked Pac-10 team.

Stoops' and Tressells 0-5 record in Bowl games in recent years begs to differ

Great observation.

If College football had a playoff they would most likely have a lot more to show.

I agree USC, unlike OU, shows up in big games. When was the last time they lost a big bowl game besides the national championship against Texas? Even in that game it took an insane performance from Vince to barely pull it off. They get punished by their weak conference, which I can't really argue with. They need to schedule big time programs like Ohio state but for games much later in the year so the voters remember

No Art Briles or Mike Leach? You'll think of them soon enough.
