14 teams made the playoffs. Less than half (6) were top rushing teams. So, the point made by the thread title is moot in my opinion. The top passing teams are king.

Yeah,
There's still a couple on here who still don't quite understand how an effective running game changes everything so I've either ig'ed 'em or scroll on past their posts.
Yep, that’s why most of the hyper critical Dak haters are on ignore for me. No run game, no effective QB play with Dak. A good RB can make a QB look like a genius, and no run game can make him look like a fool.

Usually playoff teams have good rushing stats because they build a big lead with the passing attack, and then run late in the game to burn clock.

Baltimore and Philly are exceptions....

A more interesting stat would be rushing yards in 1st half, to exclude the 4th qtr rushing yards good teams build up as they're simply looking to milk clock, not score necessarily

having a good running game literally helps the entire defense in terms of Time of possession and keeping the defense fresh. Can't believe this STILL has to be said again and again. The more tired you get, the more mistakes you make. It was the winning formula for the Cowboys of the 1990s. Same with Romo and Murray, and again with Rookies Dak and Zeke. A strong running game has always been a product of our best teams.

Don't worry about what other teams have had success with. Worry about what Dallas has always had success with in their history.

Its extremely rare where I will post against trying to upgrade the run game, but here is my issue....and its mostly about the process rather than the actual action of upgrading the team.

Once again the Cowboys are chasing the trends in the NFL. Chasing trends is like investors chasing a stock that just doubled in value....its more expensive and is more likely to dip in the near future. Last year was the perfect time to invest heavily in the run game. RBs could be found on the cheap everywhere including Derrick Henry at $8M per year. Instead the Cowboys passed up on backs who wanted north of $4M. Now that its cool to run the football again every team in the league is going to be looking at running the football better and run game players is going to go up. The good news is the draft seems pretty deep at the position this year, but you still might see the run on RBs go earlier than normal.

Just once I wish the Cowboys would look at finding the next trend and be proactive. Being serious about the run game when the run game and RBs were being devalued across the league is what they should have done. This time last year I was all about going hard after a RB to upgrade the offense. Now in 2025 we are talking about things that should have been addressed a year ago...upgrading the RB spot and introducing more motion into the offense. We are literally playing catchup to 80% of the league and will be paying a steep price to do so.

Jerry is a bit slow at reading the tea leaves.

Run game has returned and we are promoting a OC that prioritizes a strong ground attack. Appears that are going to change the scheme, perhaps add personnel upgrades along the OL and running back rooms.
Fingers crossed........perhaps they finally figured out it's the best way to get the most from Dak.

Nothing has returned yet. Maybe we sign or draft a RB before anyone gets too excited. By the way we still don't have a right side of the OLine and 2 developing rookies.

Per Stephen Jones, we are marrying the run game ............IMO we need to move into the top 10 for a chance at the postseason.

Jeanty would make us a serious playoff contender that is why the Cowboys would draft him.
LOL....never. Our QB sucks in the playoffs. We will NEVER go anywhere until we replace the QB. Jeanty will waste his first four years in the NFL if he plays for us.

Dak chokes in the playoffs. He doesn't play his best which is what's needed. He has hit hit ceiling and is on the decline and injury prone now. I don't understand why so many fans are in denial of this.

I really wish Steve-O wouldn't telegraph the move so blatantly. That's our future my guys.

Jeanty needs to be the guy. He displays echoes of Emmitt Smith on tape and had the production of Barry Sanders. He's the best player in this draft imo. I don't see a back available in FA that compares to what he could provide, and there's a noticeable drop-off between him and the next group. I like Hampton and Judkins in the 2nd, I'd take a risk on Skatebo at the top of the 3rd, but none of those guys have the game breaking potential that Jeanty brings. If we're going to run the ball, we need a workhorse. Barkley has shown what a difference a premier back can make, and hopefully GMs at the top of the draft are occupied fighting over the top QBs, OTs, and DEs to concern themselves with a RB. Hopefully his rough game against Penn St scares teams away from him and he falls into our lap at 12. Fingers crossed.

"The top 6 rushing teams made the playoffs"

That stat is so ripe for misinterpretation and misunderstanding. It forever misleads simple-minded fans and simple-minded Jerry Jones.

Teams with superior passing games and superior defenses gain big leads and then what do they do? They start running the rock a lot in the second half. Ergo: They stack up lots of total rushing yards.

Of the top ten teams in rushing yards per carry this season:

4 of 10 missed the playoffs entirely.

That's the obsession with names (rather than system's) which Jerry likes, and gets us in so much trouble.

Regardless of how good Jeanty is (and he is), there are a number of serviceable/good RB's (especially for me if we can can draft back). Sort the 'Lines' out first.
