It is not a one way street. A great run game opens up the passing game and vice versa. This forces a defense to play honest or to guess and risks being exposed.

Building a complimentary team on both sides of the ball is the key to success.
that's called complementary football as you said. see my comments above..... I think key to being unpredictable on offense is run on first downs. if you can average about 4 yards or a little more when you run on first downs, then that really forces a defense to play honest and take risks and be exposed. when you average 3 yards a carry on first downs, then I guess you pass a lot more on 2nd downs and that makes it easier on defense.

Same reason Barkley is having big chunk plays. When the defense commits 8 in the box he has a chance of taking to the house.

Simple way of looking at things and if it's simple it's dallas.

And I'm not saying improving the run isn't vital. But it comes far second to the defense. The passing game is irrelevant to me for this teams quarterback
Correct.

They should really shore up both the front seven and RB position in free agency, with a prioritization on defense (a solid vet RB is good). THEN draft the best players available.

Yep, been telling you guys this for a couple years now. Passing league or no, it's impossible to win a super bowl w/o a chain moving facet to your O. Ask ATL and SF!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah,
There's still a couple on here who still don't quite understand how an effective running game changes everything so I've either ig'ed 'em or scroll on past their posts.
Yup. This idea that just any RB you find in the middle rounds is just as good as any has been shot to hades. Stomped on and lit on fire.

It not only matters, it matters a lot who you have at RB. Unless you have Mahomes who's only the best QB in the NFL.

In 1988, with a poor OL, Herschel Walker an avatar RB, led the NFC in rushing. In 1989, with Walker traded to the Vikings, he Boys did not have a good running game. But in 1990, with 1st round pick Emmitt Smith, the rushing game once again became great. If you want a great offensive Cowboy team, we need a star RB. Dak cannot carry this team on his back.

Jeanty is the home run hitter for a team with a singles hitter in Dowdle. A HR hitter at RB opens up the passing game. A fake hand-off the Jeanty will open many passing lanes.

If Jeanty is selected before pick #12, it could mean the 2nd best WR is available, whom I would take fast, and then in 2nd round draft take one of the other stud RB's who will still be available. But he must be one with a history of being impervious to injuries. Do not draft an ACL-repaired RB.

I would sign as free agents two defensive tackles.

Here is the unjust compensation awarded the Boys when these players left as free agents:
Here are 5th and 6th round players who made the Boys/worth mentioning as either 5th or 6th round selections in past 26 years

Darren Hambrick, LB, RB 1998

Pat Watkins Safety 2006

Dwayne Harris WR, KR 2011

Xavier Woods S 2017

Anthony Brown CB 2016

Joseph Randle RB 2013

James Hanna, TE 2012

Cedrick Wilson, WR 2018

Darron Bland CB 2022

Damone Clark LB

Matt Waletzko OT

Asim Richards, 2023

Caelen Carson CB 2024

Ryan Flourney WR 2024

There is virtually no way I am not taking a stud DT with our first pick. Last year, five of our ten losses were by 25, 38, 28, 24, and 34 points. The rushing yardage we surrendered in those games was 190, 184, 187, 141, and 179. Both of those Eagle games would have been over 200 yards if they kept Barkley in the game, and in that last game they didn't even have Hurts playing. This defense got its *** kicked last year, and it's not just due to injury. We have needed a stud DT for years. There will be at least two with 1st round grades that will be there for us.

And to add, if we don't start putting emphasis on this position, then Jerry has truly stopped learning. I mean, I know it takes forever(3-4 seasons of ineptitude, generally) for Jerry to learn an NFL simple fact, but at this point he surely sees know that all 4 teams in the championship game have stud DT's. All 4. And 3 have very good NT's.

You don't need a good NT, until you do, and then you need one badly.

Taking nothing away from Barkley, but when you rush for a 1,000 yards without being touched, every RB is going to look pretty solid.

The NFL is going back to emphasizing the run more.
I would've never left it.
Bellichick was good at taking advantage of the opposite of what other teams were doing.

He drafted or signed unwanted small quick WR's, he had multiple undersized RB's that were great receivers. By doing this he never had to over pay for either position.

He has been the only team to have a real Dual TE threat in the passing game.

Being late to following trends is not a good place to be.

Dak chokes in the playoffs. He doesn't play his best which is what's needed. He has hit hit ceiling and is on the decline and injury prone now. I don't understand why so many fans are in denial of this.
If he had a decent running game maybe he would calm down. Seriously it's our only hope.

That would be an awful pick. Plenty of good RBs available later. The Cowboys should be drafting DLine, LB and Oline, RB.
You run the ball because you have running lanes. Teams with great offensive lines, you don’t need a great running back although if you had bolt that’s when you’re really excel. But I take an offensive line before running back any day. Totally agree.
