The Truth About the Cowboys & Free Agency in 2010

good lord, can you start handing out cliff notes?

I am too busy freaking out about us not signing other teams RFAs to read all that.

Sure we could sign him. I think it has about as much chance of happening as Jerry stepping down as GM today. I honestly don't think we are all that interested because we are 3 deep at OT and have a 4th prospect we think highly of. Plus we have the draft coming up where there are OT prospects we can get far cheaper than we can get Gaither. Affordability does play a role from time to time. I doubt very seriously the Cowboys see Gaither as the apex OT.

Hey, I was just kidding... thus the ;)

Ah, so let's explore the rationale behind this for just a minute. Why would the Rams make the lowest tender offer to one of their few good players? No compensation right?

Dallas signs him, then gets him for nothing.

No. Dallas signs him. They have then set his market for the Rams, and they match the offer. Dallas gets nothing.

Or, they pay the Rams to acquire him by doing as the Seahawks did for Charlie Whitehurst.

So you can pretend we get him for free, with no compensation, or you can accept the fact that he comes with a trade price.

not necessarily. For the right price, I don't think they would match. So, in reality, he can/does come with no compensation. A draft pick might have to be added, but not 100%. In the end it all comes down to Atogwe. I think he's sick and tired of all that losing in St Louis. He'd love to come to a team on the verge of a super bowl run. Another thing is Whitehurt was a completly different scenario because he was given the 3rd round tender, was he not? Im 80% sure.

Again, I do not agree with Jerry merely setting the market. That is enough for one other poster in here. I think it is naive at best.

just to throw this out there, but jj and the organization may already know that the rams basically want someone to set the market. like jj probably would like someone to do with austin, imo.

using bell and philly as another example, i'm guessing that the eagles pretty much knew that NO was not too interested in keeping bell at rb - so they made a move.

Dumb question with nothing to do with the thread but Woods post made me think of it:

Did the saints keep Duece on their roster for the super bowl? I know they signed him for the playoffs, I hope he got a ring.

To be fair - it's not really a "mentality". It's just one loud ****** with an internet connection.

I see you're a fan of Archer.

I make it a point to use that quote at least once a day. :laugh2:

so youre saying there is a chance?

(In my my best jim carey voice)

OJ Atogwe is still available and better than Hamlin.

Sign him.

That's the only move that we arn't making that is pissing me off.

He's got 4 months for his shoulder to heal. Plenty of time.

Take a chance. If he's not better, then oh well at least you tried.

If we know we can snag Earl Thomas in the draft then I don't want Atogwe, otherwise I would want Atogwe if there is a shot at it. It doesn't need to happen, but I would love it to; I would be just as satisfied if nothing happens from now till the draft and we pick up a good safety in the draft.

We could have had Benny Sapp people. Benny "Championship" Sapp.

Luckily, for the sake of cowboyszone, calmer (and more patient) heads are prevailing within the team's front office.
