The upcoming week

27M??!!

How in the world did the tag end up that high for that position? What players are driving it up?

It is specific to his contract. The franchise tag requires that the player get the larger of either the top 5 players at his position OR 20% more than his cap hit from the previous year.

His cap hit last season was 22.4M. Add 20% and that comes out to 26.88M.

The tag for other DTs is just projected to be 11.17M.

Jerry has made it pretty clear his not getting into the high priced FA market.
There have been several articles with Jerry's response to this matter.
If watching the last couple of years in the FA signings doesn't give you
some indication of the new business approach the FO is taking then
please do wait and have fun waiting

All teams tamper. Noway these guys who sign right when FA starts sign that quick without speaking with these teams before FA

There is a 3 day window before the start of free agency where teams can start contacting players from other teams. They implemented this in 2013 to avoid the temptation to tamper.

I would not bet money on that. They are obviously more conservative than they were in years past when Jerry gave out mega contracts like Halloween candy, but they are going to want to get a pass rusher in FA and that will be expensive. They know that another Mincey type player is not enough.

Jerry says a lot of stuff but it's almost always open to interpretation. I think he said Wade's job was safe about a week before he fired him. There have been many times that what Jerry said didn't match what actually happened.

I wouldnt be suprised if Jerry feels he is one player away. You can make an argument that he's right. They got quite possibly 1 bad call from making it to the NFC championship game. And you can further argue that if Murray doesnt fumble in that game they put that game out of reach.

Dez and Suh will get tagged and AD will most likely not come to Dallas. Why would AD pass up 12.5 million guaranteed to come here for way less? The only way he comes here is if the Vikings cut him before we sign Demarco. Excitement over.

who the hell is 'AD'?...lol

I'm betting on this one,not saying Jerry's not buying in but the high FA's, not. Both he and Red
have commented on this subject. You may be correct I'm not living or dieing on my position.

Could have swore Adalius Thomas also had the nickname AD when he was in B-More.

Anytime I read the word pandemonium, I immediately think of Gorilla Monsoon.

I hope we strike a deal with Dez this week so we have as much flexibility as possible going into FA.

That and his other two favorites were "Pier Six Brawl" and "House of Fire"!

It is based on his cap number from 2014. The franchise number for DTs is only like 9.8m. But you have to take the higher number and add 20% to last year's number.

DET was forced to give Suh a 60m+ rookie contract under the old CBA. They restructured a lot of his salaries over the years and ended up with a cap charge of 22m+ last year. His salary was only 12m+ but he had a lot of pro-rated bonuses to account for. When you add 20% to 22m you get the 26m+ tag amount

The thing is that DET could still work out a long term deal with Suh and avoid the tag. It all depends if he wants to stay in DET or test FA. I would imagine that he was gotten this close that he will wait to sign and see what the market will bear.

60 million for a rookie deal. Thats crazy. I don't think that DET was forced. I just think they were dumb to give him that contract.
