As long as he was head of the players union, I can't believe anyone would say there are a ton more people who've had a bigger effect on the NFL. I have no issue with the patch being worn or anything.

and as far as being classless......alot of people say Upshaw was classless...so what

A guy that has had as much influence on the game as gene did, you don't ***** about any tribute he gets. You can cry about someone else that deserves more but no freaking way do you ***** about gene getting a darn thing. The past was what it is, people get forgotten, this aint then.

A. they arent putting the patch on the jerseys fans are buying, so fans should stop whining about it already

B. he does deserve to be honored....he is a HOF player and successfully served the players association for 25 years.

even if the patch is big and gaudy, the players should be more than happy to wear it, because Upshaw's efforts were very much responsible for the huge contracts that players have been getting over the last 2 decades.

A. It looks horrible and is distracting. How many million times will we hear "Hey, what's that GO means?" "What do OG mean . . . wanna nother beer?
We dig your public show of grief . . . but don't make it part of the NFL show. It's already cluttered enough visually.

B. He deserved to be honored at a moment of silence at every opening NFL game this week. And the HOF.
But don't turn the NFL into a perpetual arena for grief recovery or an adoration society.
Just let us see the game without the guilt.

The patch would have really raised some eyebrows had Upshaw's first name been Frank.

I found the patch an eye sore, I think one game would've been enough to wear it.

i could care less if they honor him or not.....i have no affiliation with the guy.

the league is honoring him no matter how the fans feel. It is obvious the league as a whole has decided to honor him this way, and by whole, I mean the players as well. I am sure they had a voice in the tribute....probably a large voice.

I just dont see why fans are moaning so much about a stupid patch that only the players wear, not the fans.

For me, I am more upset at the garbage they put on my TV...subjecting me to the Rams for 3 hours instead of switching to the Buc and Saints......subjecting me to the Texans for 3 hours instead of switching to a more competitive AFC contest. I am more upset that the NFL regulates end zone celebrations as if they were Communist USSR. I am more upset that the officiating in week 1 was on par with how NBA games are called.

The patch is supposed to be worn all year, unfortunately we probably only wear our blue jerseys 1 or 2 more times....

The players are wearing the patch, name one person more influential on players' lives than gene upshaw was. Then look at salaries and at benefits.

I can't even believe anyone has the arrogance to wah wah wah about this one.

He did such a great job the current players couldn't wait to get his arse out of the there.

Some loved him, some hated him.

The patch is fugly, and should be changed to an optional sticker for the helmet after week one.
