The Video Game Thread

I finally scored a PS5 on Walmart today! I'm super excited. It won't be here until the Ides of March but I'm still happy to have finally got one.

Heck yeah! Awesome! Maybe I should start trying again. I all but gave up in hopes that inventory would eventually level out, and well, as you know it's still a rat race out there for consoles.

For anyone having issues on PC with Elden Ring ..

I just went ahead and refunded and will get it on PS5. About time they get this fixed with a patch, it'll be cheap to get it on CDkeys. I never have much confidence in Japanese companies to fix these things in a timely manner, they tend to prioritize console and portable systems over PC.

Given how popular the game is and the great pre-release reviews, I am guessing they will work fast to patch it. I would assume the console versions will be more stable at launch since everyone has the same hardware for each console.

I tend to wait a little while when new games are released on PC because there are so many different hardware and windows driver configurations that there are bound to be some issues at least for some PC gamers for most modern games.

Xbox is having stutter issues from what I read, PS5 seems to be where they focused their attention - not surprising, that's where the Japanese market is. I'm fine with waiting for it on PC since the PS5 is beefy enough to run this at a steady 60fps with good enough resolution. From what I saw people playing it on PS5, the draw distance and pop-in is about the same at max settings on PC.

Who would've thunk the best developer on the world was from Japan and loves Playstation. 1 hours and thirty minutes til we dance with the Ring fellas. Anyone wanna co-op hit me up...PSN ImThe1WhoKnockz

I got to play nearly 2 hours on PC, it's really something special - just had to hurry and quit before the refund time limit came up. I'll remember your name, I'm going to avoid co-op during my first run since I want to do a solo adventure. But my second time through the game I'm going to try out co-op and PVP.

LOL even the PS5 is now having problems. Their 1.02 patch really screwed things up.
It looks like the most common bug PC gamers are reporting is "stuttering" which is why I was critical of playtest version reviews the last few days.

Most of the people playing and reviewing the playtest version were probably running 3080/3090 video cards while a lot of normal gamers have 20xx or lower cards due to supply issues.

Hopefully they get the stuttering and other issues resolved over the next few days.

I cannot believe the PC version of Elden Ring does not support ultra-wide monitors and FromSoftware said they have no plans to support it which means you have to play it at 16x9.

Even worse, it is capped at 60fps on PC with no DLSS support.

It sounds like it was designed for consoles and the PC version was just an afterthought.

That seems a very short-sighted decision, surprising really.

It caught me off-guard. DLSS I am not as worried about but not supporting 21:9 ultrawide monitors is astonishing.

I have read there is an unsupported (and not allowed) third-party mod that appears to add support for it in offline mode but if used online it may lead to your account being banned as cheating.
