The Video Game Thread

I stood in line (even as a 15 year old) for Ocarina at ToysRUs. My great-grandmother got it for me. I've said it many times here that it is my favorite game of all time, and still is. I'm a grown *** man now but I might get a bit misty eyed if they announce it. But please Nintendo...just crush it!

ITS HAPPENING. SCHEDULE YOUR PTO AND SET ASIDE $80.

What do you guys think about the GTA VI price point of $80 and $100, with some in-game stores reportedly locked behind the $100 edition? Add to that the lack of physical copies.

I'm not a huge fan of it. We've seen other developers try this and get absolutely roasted, but Rockstar seems to be getting a pass. I think it sets a pretty bad precedent.

Don't care for it at all, but it will sell like water in the desert. Me, I'll wait until it's on sale

I’m not a fan of it either.

However, I think the reason Rockstar gets a pass is because their last two mainline games GTA 5 and RDR 2 were both absolute 10 out of 10 masterpieces.

Also, I think they get a bit of a pass because of the amount of content their games have. GTA 6 between the campaign, all the side activities, and then online will literally have hundreds if not thousands of hours of gameplay. So even if you spend $100 on it. You’re going to be paying Pennies per hour of game content.

There was mention a while back by I think a financial person related to the gaming industry who stated they needed GTA6 to sell for $80+ in order to set the new baseline for all games so game companies could start charging more to make more money.

Personally, I think game companies should charge what they want for their games as long as they're willing to accept the impact (good or bad) it has on their games.

The same goes for the console system price increases due to price increases in RAM and storage in the market.

Rockstar has the advantage of having one of the few games that will sell no matter what they charge. GTA, Mario and Zelda games are so popular with gamers they could get away with charging even more with a lot of them..

That said, I have no intention of paying $80+ for a game when there are way too many games out there already that I have not played that are much cheaper or in my library waiting to be installed.

In the end, if the game companies are happy with the amount of sales they get, then they were justified.

If not, then they'll either lower the price and hope for a second chance or they'll learn for their next game hopefully.

Yeah those prices are crazy, 250 GB sata 3 Samsung SSD on Newegg, about 250 bucks. Last one I bought which was 500 GB was considerably less than $250

I haven't bought a computer part in the last couple of years. I've needed things but i'm not paying 3x or 4x or even 2x for them.

Eventually the AI bubble will burst and the tech suppliers to those companies will be scrambling to recover the consumer markets they ignored and screwed over.

What they don't realize is that they are not just putting off people, they are driving people to completely change how they use personal optional tech.

People are not going to be sitting there waiting to be grateful for them to drop prices by half while still keeping them well above what they were pre-AI.

Those people are going to be changing their habits to the point of no longer caring about the things they did before.

When those companies shift back toward consumers, many are going to find out they are dealing with a much smaller market then.

None of the creatives at Rockstar who produced GTA and RDR are still with the company. If it is poorly written, and loses the edge Rockstar is known for then I think this will begin a decline like we've seen with the Star Wars and Super Hero movies. Future releases will be in trouble if Rockstar blows this.

Not a fan of it but if there’s one company that can do it is them. They are just a machine.

If the game underwhelms, then they will lose the benefit of the doubt for the next game.

Then again, if it’s on the level of RDR2 with even crisper graphics, in a modern setting and the online. It’s going to be one of the most widely played games with a thriving online community for the next 10+ years.

I don’t even know if it’s possible to underwhelm. I remember the one game….Cyberpunk it underwhelmed but had life because of multiplayer. Seems like that saves games even if the story underwhelms.

Wait till ES6 and FO5. Ouch
edit: Bethesda is going to bank!

Yes Cyberpunk was released too soon with too many bugs. They made some major upgrades post release.

That’s one of the things that annoys me nowadays. I feel like so many developers release games that are buggy and not ready because they’re sticking to deadlines given by the folks who are handling the business aspect.

I get it the companies have to make money. But it is annoying as a gamer.

When it comes to GTA. I would be shocked, shocked if it’s not an amazing game.

They pretty much all have been.

Yes, I agree. Cyber they pushed out before it was ready, but it is one of the best games out the now. Let them take their time to perfect it. It will be awesome. Yes, we as gamers are going to be upset, but when you release a fantastic game we will be fine.
