That sounds promising for a 6th round pick.Brugler had him as a 6th rounder:
STRENGTHS: Bulky, compact frame with good adequate playing strength…better closing speed than expected with the chase skills and foot athleticism to work around blocks…plays decisive and physical vs. the run…lowers his pads and drives through his target – aggressive on-field demeanor…uses his eyes well to track the ball while engaged or avoiding blocks…clearly improved his football IQ over his career…bait and floats in coverage with a good feel in space…strong football character and viewed as a team leader – humble and hardworking…made impact plays on kickoff and punt coverages…productive two-year starter (24 career starts), leading Iowa in tackles both seasons and earning Second Team All-Big Ten honors in 2013.
WEAKNESSES: Appears maxed out physically and could probably lose some bad weight – plays too heavy…plays tight when moving laterally and shows some body stiffness, lacking easy COD skills…will play too tall and make himself an easy target for blockers – needs to do a better job protecting his lower body…inconsistent angles and will overpursue his target…needs to consistently finish – strong hands, but doesn’t always put himself in the right body position…too reactionary and needs to improve his diagnose skills to better anticipation the action…has only played the LB position for two full seasons…minor durability concerns after a knee injury limited him in 2011.
I thought they would pick a Will in the 7th, this looks like they picked a Sam and want to move Holloman to Will at this point. I do like the tape of Hitchens, he has a nose for the ball and does look like a guy with upside once the position coaches and strength training group work with him.
The draft isn't about making fans feel comfortable. It's about getting players they think that can make the team better at spots they are comfortable with, that's it. If you want to feel better try this...http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2014/2/25/5430150/nfl-draft-history-worst-picks
I don't need to open that link when I want to think about bad drafts I think about 2009
Interesting that they are going ILB over OLB. Insurance for Sean Lee's annual injury.
BAN-INCOMING-IN-3-2-1 called it a Millen Pick and another reason why Jerry should hire a GM.

Here's the take:
WEAKNESSES
Is short and lacks bulk. Tends to play narrow-based and get rooted out of the hole on inside runs. Angles and anticipation could stand to improve -- is late to sort out misdirection. Very average cover instincts -- often is lured by play-action passing game. See-and-go reactor. Modest production for a weakside position where action is designed to be heavily funneled his way -- leaves some on the field.

PS. 3 rounds too early.
Awesome! That's why we have 6 seventh rounders. For guys just like this. I'd like to say that this team knows something I don't but history suggests otherwise. I'd feel more comfortable with Jerry's grandson using a draft magazine making the picks.
