The whole WR debate

The thing that gets me about this whole WR debate (which consists of at least one thread a day, make that two:p: ) is somehow lost in all the talk of WRs and even our TEs, is the fact our RBs caught 77 balls in 2008. They grabbed 74 in 2007. Our TEs caught 109 in 08 and 113 in 97. So please remember when talking about 4th and 5th and 6th WRs, between our TEs ad RBs, expect 170-190 catches. 2007 was a record setting year in a lot of respects for the Cowboys O and we completed 342 balls. That leaves anywhere from 140-170 catches for our WRs if everything goes as it has the last couple years. I quess i'm just not that worried about the WRs and their workload.

I agree we dont need a 90 catch WR, we just need a group of WRs who can combine to make plays when needed. We have a good mix of weapons, defenses will not be able to just focus on stopping one person they will have to defend 7 on any given play. It love the fact that it wont be about ONE player it will be about making you defend the whole field. As long as the Oline can protect Romo, he is going to find the open guy.

I thought Dallas needed to draft a wide receiver in the third round this year to develope, because right now the only speed on the roster is Stanback and Austin, they are still unknown and often injured.
The guy I really liked this year in the thrid round was Ramses Barden, I thought the Giants got a great pick there, time will tell..

I would not mind the reception numbers for the running backs to go up to between 90 and 100 total this season. I also would like the number of rushing attempts to go up by at least 50 attempts.

To be fair I believe that is why the OP said 'or two' with the tongue out smiley. He realized he was adding to the pile and joked about it.

the lack of production from our WRs was a huge problem last year...

now we're quoting it as a strength for this year?

I disagree that that was a huge problem last year.

I believe the biggest problem was trying to go to the WR's and deep routes too much last year and neglecting the RB's and the short passing game.

I think the strength this year is the short to intermediate passing game with 2TE's and Felix also. Crayton's strength is the short passing game and RW strength IMO is as a possesion type WR in the mold of what we used to do with Irvin. Move the chains and occasionally go deep.

I am not sure anyone has said that we have strength in the WR position itself but in the Passing game as a whole with so many options.

I agree. Our passing game won't be as explosive as it was 2 years ago but it might be more productive in terms of consistency and sustaining drives.

If Jones stay healthy those numbers should go up.
