You know I feel like sometimes they should not bring things back because it isn't going to be the same. I almost wish it wouldn't have Mulder and Scully and instead have a new story that very roughly intertwined with the original, but I know I am in the waay minority on this one.

Yes, you are in the minority. :)

The thing is from the networks perspective they want to be "shooting fish in a barrel" and not taking unnecessary chances.

They know the Mulder & Scully combo is going to have some kind of traction with the viewing public to start, whereas some new combination won't... And traction means advertising dollars.

Hollywood has gotten a lot more risk adverse since the bean counters took over. Mostly big budget movies- you see very few risks taken there. TV not so much because the money involved is nowhere near what it is per movie as regards a series.

You're right money isn't great a problem with a TV show as it is with a planned movie, but being able to go to advertisers and with a past proven concept... well that's like money in the bank as compared to trying to initiate a brand new concept. Hence that's what we had so many Law & Order spinoffs and CSI spinoffs and NCIS spinoffs.

I think with tv its actually the network suits who are terrified of failing who are the ones that want to go with spinoffs. Money really does not enter into it much. That is why you see so much more innovation and risk taking with HBO and the other cable companies- they do not have the entrenched like the big networks do.

I actually agree with this. I am a believer in that old adage, "You can never go home."
