Hey Hos I was on a flight with him one time. He wouldn't even acknowledge anyone. The best part was watching him go from one luggage chute to another trying to find his bags. I watched him for about 10 mins walk back and forth.

I wish I had been wearing one of my jerseys just to see his reaction :laugh2:

The Kornheiser review...

Last night was my first opportunity to hear ESPN's Monday Night Football crew of Mike Tirico, Joe Theismann and Tony Kornheiser.

I've always enjoyed Kornheiser's work on Pardon the Interruption and in the Washington Post, so I came in with an open mind. My first impression was that he's trying a little too hard.

There's a really fine line when you're attempting to entertain and inform at the same time, and Tony's still trying to find his footing. The problem with Dennis Miller on MNF was that everything sounded canned.

It's the problem Kornheiser's already facing.

The producers have him providing commentary for all these pre-packaged graphics, and it just comes across as forced.

I also sensed a little tension between Kornheiser and Theismann. You get the feeling that Theismann's constantly wanting to remind Tony that he didn't play football.

Poor Tony K. was really trying to drive home a point about Commanders safety Sean Taylor's reputation for being a dirty player hurting him with officials, but Theismann just dismissed him.

Tony couldn't let it go when Taylor was called for a facemask penalty a few minutes later, and once again, Theismann blew him off, saying, "A facemask has nothing to do with reputation."

Kornheiser's good when he trusts his instincts. When Tirico went down some strange road about the Vikings having dirty diapers, Kornheiser snapped, "If we could get away from the baby analogy for a moment..."

It was funny moment and Tirico took it well. Just didn't hear enough of those moments last night.

What do you guys think?

I personally like Theisman is the booth. People I know would disagree, but he seems pretty neutral to me. He never seems to root for the skins when he's doing their games. Kinda like Aikman and Cowboy games.

I think he's much more neutral now than he was in the past. When he did our Saints game, I never got the sense he was bashing us. If anything, he was a Bledsoe apologist at times.

My problem primarily deals with his insight. Being a successful quarterback in this league, you'd expect him to have a lot of insight to offer. I just don't hear it that often.

Vermeil has been brought up in this thread...now there's some insight. He was on top of every pertinent stat, etc. First drop of the game, he commented how Oakland ranked 30th in drops last year. Now, he may have someone feeding him those stats...but then why doesn't Theisman? His insight seems trivial at times.

Did you hear Theisman late in the game when he blurted out that if he was the Vikes he would make the Skins re-kick the punt when there was a penalty on the Skins?!

Mike Tirico correctly pointed out that under the new rule the Vikes could just take the penalty yardage and add it on to the spot of the ball. Theisman tried to cover his ignorance by continuing to say he would have them re-kick it. It was blantantly obvious he didn't know about the rule.

It's not quite so bad that he didn't know the rule, in fact I had forgot about that, (never mind Theisman is paid to know those things), but what made him sound so ridiculous was trying to defend himself even though it was very late in the game, the Vikes had good field position and it would have been lunacy for a coach to have them re-kick it and take a chance at a fumble or worse field position.

I just laughed at how ridiculous he sounded. What he should have done was just admitted he forgot or didn't know that was the rule.

Yeah, I was laughing at that, but I wasn't sure if it was a mistake on his part or if her really wanted Minny to make the Skins re-kick, so Minny would have WORSE field possition, being the Skins fan that he is.

Also, in that last series where Minny was obiously just letting the clock run out before they kicked that last FG...Joey T. wanted them to pass...lol. Yeah, lets help the Skins out some more.

Last night towards the end of the game he twice talked about the Skins as "we."

I thought Vermeil was outstanding.

I forgot what it was like to have a real knowledgable, polished analyst in the booth.

I intend to write ESPN about how good I thought he was.

Agreed. He should be banned from doing Commander games. It's pathetic. The man-love for Gibbs is unbearable. As has been mentioned in many posts, is that the only good sound that ever came out of Theismann was his leg snapping.

Possibly the greatest post ever!!!

In the summer of 1986, my buddy and I were walking down main st. in Fairfax City to go to the playtime arcade, and as we were crossing a street, there was a black lincoln town car waiting for the light (we were passing in front of the car.) Inside the car was Theismann and Cathy Lee Crosby (the other Cathy Lee from That's Incredible fame). I pointed towards the car, and said to my buddy, "That's Joe Theismann." My buddy -a skins fan- was excited, and Joe non-chalantly half-waved to us, and what did I do? I gave him the finger and laughed (I was fourteen).

You've done us proud!!!

Nessler's play-by-play was outstanding as well. This should have been the MNF main team.

My ultimate goal in life is to sit next to Joe on an international flight and proceed to eat a huge bucket of KFC hotwings, snapping them apart in every attempt to get every bit of meat off as I can.

Theismann last night referenced a five-INT game he once had while playing for Washington.

He's now essentially having one of those types of performances every Monday night.

I was at that game - it was AWESOME! We all sang "Happy Birthday" to him when he got pulled (it really was his birthday too). That was an awesome home opener (I think it was the season opener too, but it's been too long).

On the subject of his commentary - he's HORRIBLE. Did anyone notice last night when he talked about Brad Johnson making bad decisions all night right after he tried to fit in a TD pass with triple coverage? Then, just a few plays later when Brad actually threw the TD he said something like "he hasn't made a bad decision all night." ROFLMAO. He can't even make up his own mind about a player's performance. He's just a bad, bad commentator.

I agree.

I thought the trio of Nessler, Vermeil and Jaworski was 10 times better than the "A Team."
I agree. I was surprised at how good Jaws and company were. Dick Vermeil was hilarious.
