Theoretical Dez question/poll

If the Dez catch is not overturned AND Dallas wins that GB game, does he have a contract today?

I was wondering what the Zone thought about the idea that if Dez' catch had ended up being the game winner to vault us into the NFC Title game (and maybe the Super Bowl) ...would he now have a contract instead of a franchise tag?

Not stirring anything up here. Just, curious about your thoughts.

No, but we would have our own "Catch" to talk about for many years to come had it led to a SB.

I don't think that catching the ball would have led to a new contract, but a Superbowl win would have given Dez a bit more leverage. JJ would have more pressure to keep the status quo.

Voted no, The two sides seem to be way apart right now. I think the FO is starting to get it and instead of setting the market they will see what the market is set at. I still think a deal gets done.

That's for sure.

The reason I asked was some may not realize that Dez' playoffs were not that great. I'm not blaming him, I mean the man was being blanketed.

But here are the playoff stats for receiving....

Witten__11 rec, 134 yards, 0 TDs, 8 1st dwns
Williams__4 rec, 130 yards, 3 TDs, 3 1st dwns
Beasley__7 rec, 101 yards, 0 TDs, 4 1st downs
BRYANT__6 rec, 86 yards, 0 TDs, 3 1st downs

Just thought some here might feel that huge high-light reel game-winning TD catch would go along way for him compared to borderline goose-eggs.
I DO think it would have helped him a ton, but not sure it'd be enough to seal the ldeal before the tag came.

You have to look at the whole body of work. Now a hyped up JJ might have thrown dollars on that catch but luckily it seems he's getting restrained a little by the rest of the FO.

I like an explanation when some one answers a pole. If you don't want responses as to why some one decides a yes or no, then state it that way.

No, that's not what happened. I was glad to get a response, I just did not see an answer to the pole so asked him to click no.
You guys are misunderstanding my reply.

Sorry I don't think the one catch makes any difference at all. I think there are some issues the Cowboys have but they seem to be more off the field than on the field and I think Cowboys are trying to be careful in what they offer long term. In the end I think both sides will find a middle ground they can both live with.

Are you counting the miracle catch that wasn't counted as a catch?

No.
That's the point of thread though.
Especially if the follow through is a winning TD.

It goes from, on paper, a mediocre playoff performance to absolute hero.

I answered no. I don't think the Cowboys opinion of Dez would change one way or the other. The Cowboys already know Dez is a great player. I think this is more about investing a considerable amount of cap on a player and future cap management. That, of course, is JMO.

I think that Dallas's brass is well aware of the miracle catch that wasn't and understand's Dez's importance. It still wouldn't keep them from fighting over every penny. There is a new day in Dallas. A fiscally responsible one.

I really hope our front office is not stupid enough to base their decision making on something like that.
