I stated something similar in another thread.

Other teams are calling our plays. The first INT Pierce checked out of a blitz and on this play, the safety was running backwards before the snap.

It has been getting worse/more frequent

Remember the deep pass that was picked off by the deep safety? Romo said he did not see the safety. Remember the Giants had blue shirts and gray pants. There is a lot of gray and blue in the stadium and it was a deep pass. Perhaps the safety blended into the background of the stadium.

Does anyone think that could have been a factor?

I absolutely think it was a factor. Remember, Phillips was about 25 yards off the line of scrimmage. From Tony's perspective he was only a couple of inches tall. He may very well have blended into the background. It was quite obvious that Tony didn't see him until the ball was released.

I think what it was is that Michael Boley and the umpire were standing side by side at the Giants 41 when Romo looked up from the play fake (check 45 seconds into the video below). They were directly in his line of sight to Kenny Phillips. I still think Romo might have been able to see Phillips before he released the pass, but his vision would have certainly been obscured. The umpire remained in Romo's line of sight the entire time.

During the pre-snap with the single safety - Phillips, lined 25 yards deep. HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW WHAT HES DOING? Even if the ref or Boley blocked Romo's vision, he should of seen one lone safety back there playing the deep ball before the snap.

no romo wanted to seize the big moment. he had his mind set up on changing the playn the line and making a deep throw and being the hero....he was blinded and he threw it and threw it bad....

If you watch the replay of this pass Romo overthrows Hurd by a large margain. Even if he didnt see the safety it was a piss poor throw anyway.

Exactly the pass wasn't even close to Hurd. The other two ints were also off of piss poor Romo throws. :bang2:

Yeah, I agree. I'm just trying to reconcile Romo's post game press conference statement that he didn't see Phillips with what happened on the field.

He probably thought he would bite on play action, which wasn't the case. But still a bone headed play.

Field level view versus the replays you see on TV are 2 entirely different things. You have no idea what Tony could or could not see from his POV.

I don't think it was a matter of Tony not SEEING the guy, it was a matter of Tony TRYING to have a big play to excite the crowd. Problem was, they had CONTROL of the game at that point & throwing the ball at that point just wasn't wise.

I agree with this but it kinda doesn't matter IMO. If you know you have a deep pattern called, you also know that you must identify the safeties. You have to know where they are before you ever throw that route. If you don't know, you don't throw that ball because what you don't know on that play will kill you. It's not a matter of what he could see. It's a matter of what you don't do in that situation under any circumstances. If your at mid field and your up, 24-20 or whatever, you have to come away with points. You can't afford to turn the ball over because not only do you fail to nail the coffin, so to speak, you provide a pretty good momentum swing. That's exactly what happened on that play.

Hurd must have been in his ear all game and Romo "forced" one to him.

Cause Hurd is a stud that "All World" Romo would force a ball to...doubtful
