HOL, first of all Ignorance means is lack of knowledge. I am not sure why you would take offense to that.

We are all ignorant in many areas of life, so it is ok. If you took offense then I apologize because my intent was definetly not meant as an insult.

Secondly in no way do I think my opinion is the only one that matters, that is why I watched his play and came off with facts after watching everyone one of his plays in detail.

I just love the warmth I feel every time I come to this baord. Just so inviting and comforting, lol, you guys are great......*tear*......*sniff*........:lmao:so cheesy

and exactly when did Bill say that...

great 3rd post by the way... :laugh2:

He didn't.

As a matter of fact he said last week he has been playing solid, and today said his pass protection was good.

I never said he said that - however I did read on ESPN.com if I recall correctly, that people in Dallas were not overly happy with Rivera and Ferguson's game.

It's cool man. I played OL in high school and college then coached OL for 8 years so I take a little pride in the big guys. I'm a firm believer that the games are won and lost in the trenches. I get a little heated when I see a lack of heart from these guys or lack of production.

I spend more time watching the line play then most people and I'm not liking what I see from the Cowboys. Besides Allen I just see no fire and no urgency.

Pass blocking is the easiest thing a lineman does. A lazy lineman can pass block. It's simple leverage and body position. All your being asked to do is sheild a defender from the QB for anywhere from 3-5 seconds.

Run blocking requires a nasty streak. It should be the fun job for lineman. It's the part of the game where you can send a message to the guy across from you that your the bigger guy and you own him. It's takes a physical lineman with heart to run block.

I think Dallas has a bunch of lazy OL and I don't think all the blame rests on them. Tony Sparano is a worthless execuse for a OL coach but he's one of Bills guys so that's not going to change.

Seriously, the notion that anyone owes Rivera anything is a fallacy. From Jerry Jones down to people who post on the Zone. Rivera has done enough to get by on his reputation, but he is not performing at a Pro Bowl level. The things you described as his "responsibilities" could be said for any Guard in the league. It's called doing your job.

Nice post and I like Rivera but I just don't think he's DOMINANT like he should be......

Cool, if you recorded the game you should go back and watch how he did run blocking. He actually did a solid job.

Was he a complete mauler? No, but he was handling his man and keeping him out of the way of the running back very effectively. And if you just go watch him I am sure you would agree he had a nice hand in a lot of rushing yards. He did maul a couple of guys, but it was more getting in position and turning his man out. A few times he had some plays you would have liked where he showed that nasty streak.

Rivera's name was mentioned, not Fergie. It was in one of Lenny P's tip sheets or morning after articles.

BTW, welcome to the zone. :)

I never said he played horrible this week just that his play to this point has been less then what was expected. I'm also not forgetting that unlike most of the OL, he never did get much of a training camp in so things may be just coming to him.

In regards to his holding penalty, that was a crap call. That was not holding, and if anyone can argue otherwise it was marginal at best, and I saw so many other obvious calls that where not called.

He did have a false start, but I did not see what caused that call either, but I will assume it was a correct call.
.

with those comments I'd really have to wonder if you really watched the game again, because Rivera did hold badly, very badly, he basically had his arms wrapped around the guy and it was very obvious and out in the open where anyone could see it...and the worst part of it was he didnt need to because Barber already had the first down...it was a big momentum killer

I dont know what his penalty numbers are, but I'm guessing he's had as many, if not more than any other OL so far...his run blocking has been mediocre at best and his pass blocking inconsistent at best...you can easily circle two very bad Marco Rivera plays in the past two games that were huge momentum changers...his holding penalty yesterday and getting blown up badly by a scrub DT, which resulted in a poorly underthrown long ball getting picked that almost assuredly would have been a TD for us otherwise

he hasnt been a scrub, but he's not been worth anywhere near what we paid him...

So after today, there are apologies being owed everywhere.

Bill Parcells needs to apologize to us for embarassing the franchise for "slugging" Todd Haley.

This message board needs to apologize to Pittdawg for ripping his son.

And now Rivera is owed an "I'm Sorry".

Were it not so completely sad, it would be funny.

While we are at it, I would like to apologize for yelling countless obscenities during the last 2 minutes of yesterday's game. Gee, that feels so much better.

For those who are calling for his head you are way off base.
Rivera played solid, and handled his man pretty much the whole game. Was he Larry Allen in his prime, no, but he did not play badly.

First in the run game he was very good, and was instrumental in a lot of our running yards gained. He did have one play he got pushed back, but besides that he was very solid.

In regards to his pass protection, his man did not touch Bledose but 2 times. The first was a sack, but I do not put that one on Rivera. Bledsoe sat back there and held the ball way to long, and 4 Seahawks where on top of him, Rivera's man got there a tenth of a second before the other 3. That was on Bledsoe and even Aikman said the same.

He was on a double team once, and tried to come over and pick up a late blitz and got there late causing a QB pressure. I am not sure if that would have been his assignment or not.

Otherwise his man did not touch Bledsoe all day.

Was Rivera 100% perfect, no, but in no way should his play have caused the reaction he is getting, and overall it was solid play.
yeah yeah yeah....his penalty wiped out a huge play. Bottom line for most people isn't that he played adequately...the fact is that we are paying him pretty good coin to play like a probowler, and thus far he isn't close. He's a good starter who makes mistakes and doesn't dominate...I can live with that, but I still have the right to be disappointed that he's not the probowler I thought he'd be.

So what, Champs?

If you think you can wrest the pitchforks out of our hands with mere facts, you're really nuts.

The only reprieve for Rivera is when a bigger scapegoat is invented next week.

You gotta admit it is an upgrade over last year.
