I often wonder how Jerry Jones formulated his perception of the average Dallas Cowboys fan.
Were we revealed in an important marketing meeting? Did some young, confident marketing "genius" explain and describe our "psychological profile"?
Did Jerry, by virtue of his magnificent business instincts, already figure us out?
But then again, this is the guy that severely underestimated the backlash from firing Tom Landry. Even the public relations firm that he hired to assist him admitted they bungled it so bad they had to go back and rewrite their strategic mission.
Jerry should read more.....unfiltered. Could he truly be that naive? Does he really believe we are buying any of this?
Am I an average fan? I don't know, probably not.
Do my opinions towards the team and towards Jerry Jones border on some extreme? Again, I don't know so I really can't claim to speak for the average Dallas Cowboys fan.
However, I can speak for me.
Jerry, step down. You can't do it and everybody knew that before you ever tried.
That's because we respect the game and understand the work, commitment, and sacrifice that it takes to excel both on and off the field. Legitimate GMs spent a career working their butts off beginning at the bottom. At each level, only the best got promoted.
They earned it every step of the way and you thought you could master it with 2 years of playing college football and 5 years of watching Jimmy Johnson?
You made billions off the Cowboys history, their legacy, their players and, yes, that coach. That wasn't good enough. You witnessed the adulation that fans displayed over their heroes and you became jealous. After all, in your mind, you made it all happen.
Hundreds of players and dozens of coaches made that happen. From the undrafted free agent that lasted a single training camp to Emmitt Smith himself, they all played their part in building that powerful team.
It was foolish, stubborn, arrogant, and extremely selfish of you to assume the position of GM. Your 30 years has managed to diminish the Cowboys legacy almost to extinction.
Worse, you stole something from every Cowboys fan. You stole opportunity, potential, possibilities. You stole relevance.
The Dallas Cowboys had the distinction of having the best historic winning percentage in the NFL. They had kept it for several years. That ended two losses ago and now the Packers sit on top of the NFL in winning percentage.
I believe that was the last win-related stat the Cowboys led, They once led almost all of them.
Jerry step down, make Stephen promise to hire a GM, give hope back to Cowboys fans. Nothing less is ever going to be acceptable.
