They pulled me back in

I expect us to be competitive during the regular season (as long as we stay healthy), but I won't expect postseason success until I see it. This front office just hasn't earned those kinds of expectations from fans.

I've written elsewhere that I've gone from being a fan who expects to be competing for Super Bowls to a fan who wants to be entertained. I do think the moves the team has made gives the Cowboys a good shot of being entertaining.
You are more positive than I. Being entertained after 30 years of incompetence and mediocrity is too little too late for that. Let’s see what they do with the new talent they brought in. Right now it’s all talk. Jethro always wins the SB in the summer. Quite a different story in the winter.

Yeah I don’t like how they didn’t interview anyone and didn’t even try. They went with a guy in house which killed all hope for some change.
Looking at it from the opposite viewpoint, huge changes would've meant a year or 3 adjusting. This way, everyone's on the same page. Schotty has done his time, it was time for him to be given a shot at HC. Plus, there was no difference maker available who would've come here. It would've been just another MM or Wade. At least this way we have a chance at improvement.

Dallas had a good draft. Not impressed with the free agent pickups. Pickens was one of the worst Steelers players in history.

I am still on the outside. 30 years of history tells me to wait for the preseason games. I really don't think Dallas does anything in playoffs until Dallas drafts a new quarterback.
No he wasn't. Pickens is a very good WR, a low end #1 type, who was sabotaged w/ terrible QB play. Do his possible mental issues come from him or the situation? Hard to say.

Why would you say he's one of the worst? I mean, that's not even remotely true. He's been erratic, yes, but the QB play has been abyssmal.

That’s not a bad way of looking at it. If you aren’t gonna rebuild then you might want familiarity…..I just want no part of the old regime or Shottys offense. Hope I’m wrong though.

I was hoping beyond hope that we were on the way to a rebuild. Then we resigned Dak, which means more aiming at mere relevance.

Yeah when they re-signed Lamb and Dak I knew what this was. After the Packers they needed a rebuild and compile picks. I would’ve traded Lamb for a haul. But we didn’t and this year things so seem to be up and up.

It's the same thing every year....... "this is the year!1!" "They pulled me back in!!!" "Thank you Jerry!!!"

Meanwhile, Jerry has managed a 5-13 playoff record since 1996.

But hey, this is the year ! LOL........
Yep. "Something about this year feels different." Jerry has a captive audience and he knows it. Dallas fans crave snake oil and mediocrity.

Unfortunately, I'm still tempering my expectations until they prove otherwise. They can win me back with their play on the field. I was that guy for many years......always believing every offseason was a new chance. However, after so many letdowns, I just can’t put that kind of energy into believing anymore. You get burned enough times, and eventually, you stop reaching for the flame.

They have holes. However their ceiling is raised to a 12 win team is some things go right.

I wish they would have spent more money. They still can. They have a ton of space. But the FA's aren't fortifing much, so if the want to strengthen themselves they would have to do it via trade.
Defensive Tackle and Slot Corner needs to be addressed, a beast in the middle to play with Philadelphia and Washington is still a need but Dallas has added some depth here Toia should be a good rotational piece .Jordan Lewis was a big loss they need a player to fill this hole too.

Dang, when I was going to get a new #4 opposum suit. "It's our year, lights a new candle around the throne"

Somebody get some rust remover and polish up those old trophies. :D

- At the surprised departure of McCarthy (thank goodness !) ..i was more ready for a Ben Johnson or Liam Coen HC recruit hire .. someone who had placed some paint on the wall.
and impressive working credentials - someone that was gonna bring elements, schemes and a new brand way of thinking & maneuvering that we have not yet seen with these
past previous HC regimes.

- i sure as heck did not want the Deion Sanders HC - keep Prime at the college level, and no internal -ego- power control drama needed here.

- i am trying to ponder if Schotty (who also has OC experience like Johnson/Cohen, but was not near as innovative or creative as the aforementioned OCs).
was responsible for the Cowboys offense of 2024.
How much was McCarthy's doing... how much was Schotty's doing ? Whose offense was it really ?

Because if it were Schotty's total offensive responsibility - will we see that same offense returning in 2025 ?
What will be the difference between the McCarthy offense ..vs what promises will the new Schotty-offense bring differently ?

As a new HC, we will just have to see if Schotty is new Dan Campbell to be .. new brand of inspiring coaching, new ideas, new approach, new difference maker .
He either will be a Dan Campbell version ... or a vocal sales pitcher like Jason Garrett was ...
Good Post ,this coaching staff looks good and the vision of Schottenheimer is the right one to make this a better team fast.If Cee Dee Lamb is still double covered this season Dallas will average 175 yards rushing per game .

Ol Jerry is doing a lot better this off season , he keeps this up and Dallas could be shining up a new trophy soon,I know it is a miracle but Jerry seems to have seen the light.Who ever is making the decisions are making some good ones. This team has a chance .

Nice and accurate description.
Well said.

By the end of last year’s disappointing season, I was very much checked out and indifferent.

And when the Schotty hire was initially announced, even more so.

But I must admit that as the off-season has gone by, my interest has been rekindled.

I loved the assistant coaching hires.

I loved what they did with trades and lower level free agency.

I loved the draft.

I love the Pickens trade.

I think they’ve had a fantastic offseason and I’m eagerly looking forward to training camp and the upcoming season.
I was in exactly the same boat as you. Im very happy/ optimistic...AGAIN

Now just go get a run stuffing DT and ill be ecstatic!!

Here's something not many people think of - The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders from the last super bowl run are all now 55 to 60 years old.

Groundhog Day.

Every May the Growling starts growing. Subtle at first. A 5 out of 10, regardless of the objective state of the team.

June, the G Factor will hit 6.
July , 7/10
Aug, 8/10 (Guyton, mazi, duece Vaughn will all be studs at this point)
Sept, after some creampuff wins, full on 10/10.

Until after Thanksgiving....when it nosedives again.

Then it starts all over.

That's a sound idea. It's one that assures you of enjoying a team that's improved and not remaining stagnant. Sometimes it's best to temper expectations and simply enjoy having a winner of limited glories -- even if it doesn't include a Super Bowl. Having hope is a comfort.

If this FO continues their upward trend in player acquisitions, there will be something to cheer for the present and comforting feelings of promise for a better future. Actually, it's a new experience that we haven't had for quite some time. Usually, great improvement takes its time in coming.
That is why some of the fans are so optimistic they can't believe the positivity that this team is showing, its new found hope to compete at a high level.

Same story every year. Dallas gets crowned super bowl champion in August, and like clockwork everything turns to poo not long after.
