Things that Romo Brought

I am pretty optimistic about Romo for some of the following reasons:

1.

He bought time when pressured. The way Bledsoe was handling the pressure of the Giants, he would have been sacked at least 3 times more. It also allowed the Cowboys to do a lot more things offensively. The flea-flicker would have been a TD to TO, if the quarterback had quicker reaction time. I would be willing to bet Romo would have gotten the ball off by at least side-stepping the rush.

2.

Romo was acting like a leader. Everytime he was going under the snap, he was signaling the O-Line where the pressure would be coming from. He even audibled at the line, noticing the single coverage on TO in the red-zone. This audible is what resulted in the touchdown.

3.

No doubt, the interception that Romo threw when trying to hit Crayton was a bad throw. Crayton had made his move inside, and Romo just mis-fired. If he had put it in front of Crayton it would have been a touchdown. But, that had more to do with timing and work in game situations than anything else. Give it back to Romo te next time, it would have been an easy touchdown.

Compare this to Bledsoe's bone-headed decision in the red-zone on the Madison interception. Terry Glen was not anywhere close to open from the very beginning, with Madison playing AT THE LINE, and Bledsoe still threw it on a stupid OUT ROUTE. He could have read that from the line. The mistake of Bledsoe had to do with what his main problem is. Poor reaction time, and just plain stupid EVEN AFTER NORE THAN TEN YEARS OF PLAYING. This should be compared to the way Romo recognized the single coverage on TO, and how he adjusted.

4.

What really impressed me about Romo is what he did after that final interception. With a game-killing interception, most QBs would have faulted under the pressure and played it safe. Instead, Romo went straight up the field throwing a strike for a TD to Crayton over the middle. First, he put it on the money and second, he did not panic and fold. Bledsoe has been garbage on long strikes.

5.

We also forget that by the time Romon came in, the running game had been abandoned. Every down, Romo was forced to throw, and he still brought the team down field. It seemed as if the team became way more passionate, including TO. You could see the excitement from the team when Romo scored the two-point conversion.

6.

When TO made the drop on that 4th down, Romo kept his cool, and came back to TO the next drive for a TD.

7.

The fact is Witten started to be used a lot more when Romo came in. Instead of using him as a blocker to protect the quarterback, he was seeing plenty of single coverage. This opened up the passing game way more.

Say what you want, but the game plan changes as soon as Bledsoe is taken out. The effects are very noticeable. The Bledsoe era is over. He needs to retire.

8.

This was the first game of the season, I really did not mind the interceptions. The first interception was a botched play, i.e. batted at the line. The second, Julius Jones was wrapped up by his defender, with the defenders arms totally wrapped around Julius Jones not allowing him to free up for the screen. The last interception had more to do with experience. He just underthrew the cut of Crayton. More game play will correct this.

These are all mistakes of youth. The mistakes of Bledsoe, holding on to the ball too long, not recognizing where the pressure is coming from, and interceptions that are more of a result of stupidity despite over ten years of play are no longer correctable. I can't wait for next week.

BTW, our defense could not tackle worth **** in this game.

No problems with Romo. He seems smart and intelligent, athletic. Too bad our Oline sucks and the D is soft and non threatening to anyone.

Clearly he made some major mistakes as well as some minor ones.

I thought he brought a spark to the offense (albeit with some backfires too). He's more entertaining to watch ....

It was also nice to see the TEs involved in the passing game.

I am hoping Romo was just hyped and it is the sign of being young.

However he needs to chill out with the gun slinger attitude.

He may idolize brett favre but he is no brett in bretts prime.

Some of those throws were just flat out terrible and there were a couple that he should not have thrown that were caught by our guys.

Now the O-Line was not playing well, Romo was facing a Defense that did not worry about the run so they were pinning their ears back and like I said he is young and lacking in playing exp.

But if he wants to continue in this league and have a legit chance at starting full time in this league he better slow down on the gunslinger throw it in there when he shouldn't attitude.

From what I saw his mistakes are fixable, what I saw that was good isn't a teachable trait. I don't know how his career is going to turn out, but from what I saw, even with all the mistakes I am optimistic.

They can be corrected IF...and this is a big IF, he is willing to control himself.

Remember bill has had PCs in the past that allude to Tony being a gunslinger, favre wannabe and needs to control those urges.

Now maybe he controls them in pre-season, camp, practice but when the bullets are flying fast and furious he, IMO, fell back on natural instinct.

IF, as I said a big IF, he can control himself in that area I think he can pan out.

If he starts next week he may be in a worse situation than last night, this will be a good test to see how he handles himself.

Amen, amen, amen.

Nice to see some optimism here on Romo. I have read so many people going off of the Romo bandwagon based on last night, i mean c'mon. He's put in the 2nd half to the wolves, a defense playing very well, and an o-line who couldn't figure out blocking schemes all night.

But its good to hear talk about the good things he did: the leadership, avoiding the rush, etc.

Lets also remember the throw to witten and TO which he put on a rope in between 2 defenders for big first downs on the touchdown drive.

I think these next 3 weeks will say a lot about Romo and what he can do. yes we have 2 games @ WAS and @ ARI who both suck, but they are on the road and it still will show us more what he has in him to lead this team.

All i know is when i see Bledsoe step back in the pocket i shut my eyes waiting to hear that he's been sacked or thrown an INT, or the occasional great throw he makes if he ever gets time.

But when Romo stepped back i was wide-eyed and excited waiting to see what he could do, and i haven't been that way since the days of the Triplets.

I will keep it simple.

If nothing else... he keeps plays alive... whereas Drew will get pummeled. That is a positive.

Here's what Romo brought - 2 sacks and 3 INTs.

Ooh, and an idiotic throw to Barber as he was going down, which in may cases, winds up being pick 6.

But hey, he found Witten, right?

Romo was put in a pressure situation, he was suppose to jump start the stalled offense, the crowd was chanting for him. It was his first legitament NFL playing experience, I think he did alright considering the circumstances, He showed enough promise to be optimistic about his future.

We win that game if Bledsoe stays in IMO. Parcells panicked and our season is probably over. I can't see Romo winning either of the next two. But he's got moxie.

And your point is? All mistakes of YOUTH... Bledsoe has been playing over ten years...

But, if you want to get all picky... He also had a sure twenty yard strike to TO, but TO fell down... he also had a sure first down crucial fourth dwon conversion that was dropped by TO... he also avoided at least 3 sure as hell sacks if Drew Bledsoe would have been in there...

he also would have gotten the ball off on that flea-flicker to TO, which would have been a sure touchdown... his interception thrown to Crayton was lack of playing time... Bledsoe's interception was pure idiocy on an out-route with Madison jamming Glen at the line... it had nothing to do with playing time..

nobosy is saying he is the savior, but he sure as hell is better than Bledsoe... Bledsoe is done, and this is a FACT... We are much better than Romo in there...

Oh. I see. Youth. 4 years in the league, 27 years old....youth.

I feel all better.

w0000000000000000000000000000000t! I love it! If this was horse shoes, hand grenades, or nuclear warfare, Romo would have destroyed Osaka!

Romo really did show he was better than Bledsoe last night. If you were watching from a straight jacket, maybe.

Be interesting to see the spin if it were Henson in there putting up Romo's performance.

Or vice versa had Romo put up Hensons numbers from that one real half that Henson had.

And scored 15 points in two quarters of work, and it would have been more if not for the Terrell Owens drop.

There was good and bad with the performance. If someone can't acknowledge the good, they're no better than the "whitewashers".

Why do I get the feeling some people in this thread are happy we lost last night and both QBs struggled?

You don't have to have a straight jacket to know he was better. He made some bad decisions, but he was forced to throw (not just game wise, but stupid coaching wise) and play from behind all game long. I've seen veteran QBs do worse when playing from behind. And one of them was benched last night.

SP, aren't you one of the people who believes BP plays the best player available? Well, I think he just reinforced who he thinks that player was last night.
