My son & I are planning a trip over to see the Lions game this coming season.

We are over for a week and are looking to plan an itinerary for the week so was looking for some advice from anyone local.

What is the one thing (outside the game) that we must do when we are over?

Any recommendations for good steakhouses/ BBQ that we shoul try & get to.

Thanks in advance

Where are you thinking of staying.
There is this flat area up in the Fort Worth Area under the 114 just past the 377.
In case you're camping out.

There is a place K1-Speed across the 30 from the stadium - go karts.

Eagle mountain park out in North West Fore Worth. Nice 5 mile loop trail to walk over the lake.

Hard 8 BBQ.

Babes Chicken.

How old is your son?

Stadium tour is nice thing to do.

I haven't lived in the area in some time, but...

  • The ladies of Rosedale St. in Fort Worth. It's BrainPaint's favorite place to hangout when in town.
  • Gang Games at Berry St and Loop 820.
  • Land fill diving off 121 between loop 820 and downtown Fort Worth.
  • Road Rage Road Kill on LBJ Freeway North of Dallas.
  • Threaten all the open-carry idiots. (is there a bigger way to paint a target on your back?)

Not a local, but we enjoyed going to the rodeo when we visited. Can't remember which one we went to, but interesting if you've never been to one.

We are staying around Grapevine.

Son is 20, so is more interested in beer than go karts :)

OK. There is a chain of entertainment places called the "Main Event".
Google them there is one up in the Grapevine area.

Maybe Joe T Garcia's in Forth Worth Stockyards area.

Up the hill from Fort Worth Stockyards are a few music area bars.

Check to see if there are any events in Grapevine.

If you're a history buff I highly recommend touring the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealy Plaza. It's the building that used to be the Texas School Book Depository from which Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated JFK.

Beer: Twin Peaks or World of Beer.

BBQ: Lockharts Smokehouse or go to Randy Whites BBQ restaurant in Frisco.

Steaks: Lots of options in the Ft Worth stockyards.

Do an AT&T/Cowboys stadium tour.

If you ever watched the TV show called Dallas, they have tours of the ranch.

Indeed, Flights & Hotel are booked. Looking forward to Christmas in Dallas

We lost my Wife this year so this will be our first Christmas without her so didn't want to be at home.
A trip to Dallas to watch the Cowboys means we have something to look forward to.

Hoping to get to a Stars game when we are over, but just wanted some ideas of places to go & things to do during the rest of the week

Thanks Everyone for your suggestions

Sorry for your loss, hopefully the trip (and a Cowboys win!) will help bring a smile to your face. You mentioned that you'll be staying in Grapevine, are you staying at the Gaylord Texan? It's the hotel that the Cowboys stay in the night before a home game and they have a great steakhouse in the hotel, the Old Hickory.

Grapevine is known for its wine and they offer a few wine tours that could be fun.

Lake Grapevine has some nice trails to hike on.

Coopers BBQ, the Stockyards and Billy Bobs in Fort Worth would be a great way to kill an afternoon/night. But it's a bit of a drive from Grapevine.

Are you doing one of the Star Sports Tours packages? My wife and I have booked with them a couple of times and it was awesome. Based upon the level of package you purchase you can do meet and greet with current Cowboys players the day before the game(all right on the Gaylord Texan property) go to their pre game tailgate where they always have retired players signing autographs etc.

Yes we are, have a package that includes the player meet & tailgate and also the practice facility tour.

Stop into the Arsenal near you - Bass Pro Shop. It's near the Gaylord Texan.
Walk over to the gun area....

Texas has all the arms you can buy there.....

Also - google Fort Worth Stockyards.
The one side of the street is tourist things and the cattle drive.
The hill side to the West is where there are bars and music.
Some are no cover charge.
