Things we wish were true but aren’t

As fans, we all from time to time have to suspend logic and evidence in order to “believe”. In fact, just being a fan (aka “fanatic”) makes us vulnerable to false hopes and evidence that is contrary to our hope.

Here is a list of things we wish were true but sadly aren’t:

• The Cowboys are just victims of bad luck- this year, and the previous 25 before that. But actually, as Jimmy used to emphasize, teams make their own luck.

• Our players should be willing to take a “hometown discount”. We love the idea that a Cowboys player loves the game and the fans here enough to take less money. Pipe dream. And we should never expect a man to take less money than he could get elsewhere.

• Our front office just needs to hire the right coach- like Sean Payton- and that will fix us- since our last great playoff run we’ve already had 6 different HCs, 7 different OCs, 8 different DCs, over 70 different assistant coaches…one 1 GM. It’s more than a HC issue.

• The refs are a part of a vast NFL conspiracy to keep the Cowboys from success- Our society is always fascinated with some crazy conspiracy that helps us avoid things we don’t want to be true. The NFL can’t even define a catch or pass interference, and we’re supposed to believe they can hold a conspiracy like this together, lol? The truth is this 2021 Cowboys team was undisciplined and paid the price with penalty flags.

I don't approve of the verbiage "vast NFL conspiracy " against the Cowboys.

It doesn't have to be" vast.".
I find it odd how many big plays get called back. Now...I can't say how that compares to other teams for sure....as of course I'm a fanatical viewer of us and casual viewer of the rest of the league.
I also won't claim it's proof of "vast conspiracy".
What I do think is Godell has/had a fued with Jerry. I think Zeke's 2017 suspension was completely out of line and overstepping. Police dropped their investigation, the person was proved a liar and also tried to get others to lie. His own female investigater recommended no further action.
But issued a 6 game suspension, after a solid 2016. And poised to make a solid run?
Can't tell me that wasn't a personal power move against jerry. His superstar prize player removed for nearly half a season.

Why wouldn't that attitude permeate or bubble through? Either by discreet decree or corporate atmosphere?
At the end of the day, I don't blame our woes all on that. Just something that doesn't sit right with me.

Jerry has done his job as GM. Just look at all of those Pro Bowlers - as if a contest including fan votes is a measure of team strength, as opposed to actually accomplishing something in the playoffs. Three playoff wins in the last 25 years is NOT Jerry doing his job. It's abject failure.

We are always going to get calls on or non calls because we are the most watched team. We will usually get the ticky tack calls. But some are bad calls that happen league wide.

JJ wants to win he just convinced he can do it his way. Let’s face it. He will make money no matter what but he knows a SB winning team will team will make him more.

If we fix or even attempted to fix the O-Line during the season we would still be playing. The penalties could have been cleaned up and MM knew this DURING the season. That maybe why JJ is saying he has a lot of thinking to do about the staff. MM needed to fire that line coach weeks before the season ended. He thought his talent would get him by. And we were one play away (as usual) from winning. How hard is it to have your coaches do there jobs and if not then you replace them. That O-Line coach changed the blocking scheme or had one they didn’t understand. Something changed. No actual accountability for the players.

A new coach won’t change much unless he puts in a better game plan. Moore may not get it yet. Playcalling was suspicious.

No player is giving a home town discount. We thought Dez would, I believe he said he would. But the agent is in charge and NFL careers are short. Gallup and Gregory and even LVE will ask for top money. Let them get offers and see how bad they want to be A Cowboy. If anyone was ever going to it would be Gregory and I bet he won’t. If JJ gave up on him after his last suspension I doubt he would be in the NFL.

Fix the O-Line and get back after it healthy. That’s all we can do. Clean up the penalties..

Liked but have some issues.
-Players don't need to take a hometown discount. Would you take a hometown discount? We live in a capitalist society. At the end of the day it's a business. Jerry wouldn't take a hometown discount on anything.
-So we should break this down to what can and what cannot change. It's been 27 years since Jimmy left. The record speaks for it self, there is no way to shine it up. We are a mediocre organization just running on the fumes of Jimmy Johnson. Never gotten past the second round of the playoffs in a quarter of a century. To me not a respected organization, front office or anything. Literally remove the star from the helmet and we are a forgettable organization.
-Jerry does not believe coaching matters. Either he is braindead or his ego is so large he can never admit that he was wrong. If random fans or my 10 year old can see how clueless MM, Jason G are obviously Jerry knows.
He has taken the emotion of losing out of his mind. He just doesn't want to be embarrassed. He does not want to win less than 7 games. He needs to keep this ponzi going and it will continue until the fans hold him accountable. This will never happen as the fans are starved for a winner and would do anything to have a chance. It's a vicious cycle. It's probably better being a Lions fan because you have never tasted winning and you don't have the history of this organization. Jerry is not trying to win a Super Bowl. What has he done to make you think otherwise?
-Going back to what you can or cannot change. The GM owner will never change unless we somehow get lucky if a Bezos type buys this team, unfortunately he probably has no interest. Coaching is really the only vector that can be modified. At this point I am open to a fresh approach whether that be Sean Payton or some young assistant . A retread like Big Mike just isnt going to cut it. All he does is take roll call and then make sure to turn the lights off at the end of the day. I could hire an intern to do what he is doing.

Good post but I would add,

We can cut all of our overpaid players and still be a good football team.

A corollary of that is:

We can cut our LT because he has slipped a little and find someone better off the street.

And a corollary of that is:

Jerry will pay an adequate replacement in Free Agency.

And finally:

The Cowboys don't have a CAP problem. They can sign whoever they need to sign.

Terence Steele is good enough to be the starting RT based on part of the 2021 season.

I don't get this. Steele shows us some potential for a few games and we are ready to cut Collins and make him our starting RT? This is Jerry-logic. Why not give him a 5 year $60 million contract too.

Let Steele compete with Collins in 2022 and let the best man win the job. We've been fooled by one year wonders before. Chaz Green looked good for a few games one year and then gave up 8 sacks in 1 game the next.
