Thinking about buying a Wii

So based on what I'm reading, Wii is a good system for family and passive gamers. Xbox and PS4 are just way more advanced in their offerings.

You can't go wrong with either one, but I guess I need to evaluate what would make the most sense in our household.

I anticipate the cost is relatively similar.

How old are your kids?

X-Box and PS4 normally run about $100 more. I would recommend holding off on any of them until they hit holiday sales. The XBox and WiiU are a slam dunk to be $50 cheaper at a minimum around the Holidays.

Elementary school age..

I would go with the WiiU now. I think its games are more suitable to kids that age. It also has backwards compatibility with the Wii so you can get them Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 both of which are very high on many all time greatest games lists really cheap amd they will love it.

Id recommend Mario 3D world as well

My suggestion is to take a trip to gamestop and see what games you would let them play. Maybe even take them with you so they can be a part of the decision. No judgement on my end whatsoever if you let your kids play Teen or Mature games (you know how to raise your kids), but my youngest is not touching anything rated "Teen" or above. I am still fairly iffy on letting my oldest play some rated "Teen" games and currently do not let him play any of the rated M games. As such, I have found the titles on X-Box and PS4 way more limited.

Side Note: So that I do not sound like a Wii U fan-boy, I am counting down the days until my oldest hits the point where a PS4 or X-Box is on tap because some of those games I want for me. But, they aren't there yet and the Wii U seems to carry way, way more for their age.

Good idea! And no, I live in a heavily filtered household. Even Youtube is banned. Youtube kids is your friend. But going to Gamestop is a great idea for sure.

To clarify the wii's a bit. The Wii U is basically a more advanced Wii. Kind of like the PS4 compared to the PS3, though not as big of a jump. It will still play all the older Wii games, and as Idgit mentioned, it doesn't have to take up the TV. The controller has it's own screen and the games can be played on that while others watch something on the TV.

Agreed.

I like the Wii's sports games, but I really don't do any other types of gaming on consoles anymore. (maybe Golf) The Wii doesn't look like it comes with the Wii Remote anymore. That sucks.
