Guys, I was just reading some stuff on Tank Johnson and Hatcher, along with Ratliff. Seems like Spears might be the odd man out next year. What do you guys think we could get from Parcells in draft picks next year from Miami.

Remember now, Spears was the guy that Parcells said the Cowboys had to have. So, what kind of draft picks do you think we could get from Parcells from Miami. I dont see a player from the Dolphins that I really would want, so how a high draft pick do you guys think we could get.

Also, just for history sakes, in 1975 we traded Tody Smith a former # 1 draft pick for the Cowboys and Parks to the Oilers, which was the top pick in the NFL draft and the Cowboys chose Ed Too Tall Jones. So, what do you guys think, in draft picks we could get for spears next years draft if spears doesnt turn it around this year.

Best I remember Spears contract is up in 2 years.

Spears isn't the player we thought he would be, but I'd rather keep him if it's possible. He's no pro bowl player but he's a solid role player who gives us nice depth, I'm fine with that.

Name a player on the team better against the run than spears.

Tank, Ratliff, Canty, Ware, Ellis, James.

We have to stop thinking that Spears is some sort of monster against the run game. The man only had 30 tackles last season. Yeah, he holds his ground and occasional runs into a RB in the backfield who is running away from some congestion elsewhere.

It's not like he blast thru the line once a game with his atleticism and kills a RB four yards in the backfield.

As for what Parcells would offer us for him?

Nothing. Because big mouth Spears ran his mouth about how Parcells defense stunk and how he was going to be doing all kinds of magical things in Wade's 34.

I am still waiting for the magic to happen.

Spears might be better suited for the 4-3 tackle position. Having said that, i doubt he has any interest in Miami and vice versa.

Let's not be too fast to dump Spears, he has been excellent against the run and is a young guy.

The only issue here is that Tank is one of our better pass rushers as well. To be honest I think our best pressure package is:

Ware Ellis Tank Spencer.

Really at the end of the day I want Spears getting snaps on first and second down over someone like Hatcher or Bowen because that is what youre going to get if we dont have Spears. If anything lets trade Bowen to him.

Isn't he a FA after next year? Or is my timing off?

I am all for keeping Spears, but I bet we could throw in Bennett and Spears for a 4th round pick.

I don't think Spears is the problem on the defense, just because he was taken in the 1st doesn't mean he should be labeled a bust... They does a great job of stopping the run first and foremost which is the key to having a great defense.

Spears has produced more than Ted Ginn Jr. I guess Dolphin fans could be asking what can we get for Ginn?

What can the dolphins get for Ginn? Miles Austin? Sam Hurd?

I'm not sure Parcells would want him and vice versa, particularly since Spears didn't like playing in Parcells' 2 gap scheme. I'm all for keeping Spears who I thought played quite alright last year, particularly in Sept. and December. Nothing wrong with having a steady starter on the roster as long as you're not overpaying him, which Dallas isn't doing.
