Hey, it is the time of year to find things to write about. I have been thinking of Landry's 20 straight winning seasons lately. So I researched how many times Dallas lost by either 10+ points - and then 14+ points.

I thought it was interesting how the only two seasons where Dallas had NO losses by 10 or 14 points were 1966 and (more ironically) 1974. Yes, the 8-6 1974 Cowboys - the only season that decade where Dallas did not go to the playoffs - had all 6 of their losses by 9 points or less.

So how many for each? In 20 seasons from 1966-1985 (327 total games: 291 regular season games and 36 games in the post season), the Cowboys had:

39 games lost by 10 points or more (11.9%) (slightly less than 2 per season - 7 in the post season).
and
26 games lost by 14 points or more (7.95%) (a little above 1 per season - 5 in the post season).

How can we put this in perspective?

If you start from last year's 2016 campaign, you only need to go back to the 2004 Monday Night blowout by the Eagles on November 15th to get to the 39th loss by 10 points or more as well as the 26th loss by 14 points or more. That is 206 games (200 regular season games and 6 games in the post season).

If you go back 327 games it will bring you back to week 4 of the 1997 season.
During this time, Dallas amassed:

74 games lost by 10 points or more (22.6%)
(almost 4 per season - 4 in the post season).
and
50 games lost by 14 points or more (15.3%) (2.5 per season - 2 in the post season).
