So because they needed a running back Zeke is a horrible signing. So why stop there? What about Royce Freeman or Edoga?

If you sign him and Derrick Henry it’s not a bad signing. This logic is flawed especially if the Cowboys have no intention of salary for future years.
No, it's a horrible signing because the Cowboys have basically said Zeke has gas left in the tank and they think he's going to fix their issues.

He's not. Hence, why putting your run game eggs in the Elliott basket is what makes it a bad FA signing.

Freeman? He might not even make the roster when all is said done. He's camp fodder. Trying to equate the importance/value/ FO vision in why they signed Freeman with Elliott is weird. When Freeman signed, did Stephen start waxing on about how they think Freeman has a lot left in the tank, etc? LOL, of course they didn't. Edoga? He's really a backup. They aren't going to trot him out there, nor have they sold him, as an OL solution unlike Elliott who the Jones' clearly are selling as a solution to their run game woes.

And while you say it's not about the money, you still seemingly can't get beyond the fact he's got a cheap contract and because of that you just take the position that he's a depth/split carries signing.

That's not how to look at it. The Cowboys went about trying to find the cheapest starting TB they could find. That was Elliott. They know they need a guy to eat carries, etc. Elliott was one of the cheapest options they think can start that they could find. Again, that's what makes this a bad FA signing. Instead of improving the position, a position that everyone and their mother knew had to be fixed, they went out and went Scrooge McDuck on it and then will/are selling it as a viable solution.

This is an overreaction to bringing back Zeke. It's not a game changer acquisition but it's not a terrible move either. Zeke as a teammate is good for Dak.

It was the worst off season move. There is no logic to the signing and no logical explanation for it. It's bad GM'ing by a self appointed GM who can't be fired for his decades long streak of incompetence.

It was also a "screw you" to the fan base. Jerry is basically gloating and lording over you that he can make these patently stupid decisions and there's nothing that can be done about it.
They didn't have a RB they trust, so they signed one they know for cheap. Even if he is pure waste that wasn't the "worst" move since he doesn't cost us anything. They can hire another RB if someone's available.

And I'm not even saying it was a good move. It just doesn't hurt us.

As others have deftly pointed out, we have a win-now team and a win-later with no real plan management mindset.
