This Defense is 1 big piece away with their interior!

This is deep at spots but not loaded. The top
of the draft is weak weak weak.

Deep meaning alof these guys are close to the same player as far as talent wise a few are separated from others but there is no clear gaps.
OL DL WR RB LB CB

Certainly cannot address everything via the draft

Agree..I think the only flashing red light of need is LG which I hope we address in FA with an average NFL starter. Do that and maybe resign Kearse / Kazee and we're pretty freed up in the draft.

When I look at the landscape of the good NFL Defenses, they all have that dominate interior DT:

-Donald, Kenny Clark, Chris Jones, Vea to name a few.

This is the type of piece the Cowboys Defense sorely lacks. We need a 3 down Defensive Tackle who is good against the run and has rush abilities against the pass. Blow up the pocket and force the QB off their spot to allow our edge rushers to finish.

The goal is to be able to stop the run or defend the pass without needed extra men in the box to do so. Modern football era, having that extra man in coverage is such an advantage.

Who fits that profile in this year's class? Leal, Wyatt? Mathis?
The Cowboys are literally an elite defensive tackle away from having one of the best defenses in the NFL. The Cowboys will keep DLaw and Gregory because to be effective defensively in the league now, you have to rush 4 and cover with 7. I think a pass rusher will be the pick at 24, just not sure if it will tackle, outside, linebacker or defensive end.

24 is too high for Mathis.
True but your not getting him at our spot in the second round. The Cowboys will either get lucky with someone falling to 24 or they will reach to fill a need. Some thought they reached for Parsons.:facepalm:

Mathis looks like a very nice prospect with excellent production in a big time program. Last year he had 9 sacks, 10.5 TFL, 3 FF, and 3 FR.

Moves really well for a big guy.

Phidarian Mathis won't make it down to the 24th pick. He'll be gone way before that. Georgia's Jordan Davis will go in the Top 12.

The one who might make it down to the 24th pick is Arkansas DT/NT John Ridgeway III (6'5", 320 lbs, 5.01 40 time).

Cowboys would be dumb to pass up on another big DT/NT once again.

It's going to be the best player available at a need position, hard to say it's going to be 1 type picking at the end of the rd. However, with this front office, don't rule out taking another WR as well. Not my choice, but cannot rule it out.

I believe Gregory, Kearse, Wilson (WR) are the 3 priority fa's. Will they sign an interior offensive starter, I don't think they will as they could always kick Collins inside and move Steele to RT. McGovern, even though he struggled could be in the mix at either LG or Center. My guess is Linebacker where they sign a fa starter if they decide to let both Lve and Neal go. Safety still has Wilson.

Right now he is listed as a 2nd rd prospect, but could rise in the offseason, he is the type of tackle I'm looking for as he is more of a 3 down player with rush abilities.

Right now Ridgeway is being viewed as more of an early day 3 prospect, due to being more of a 2 down player. There is almost zero chance this front office takes Davis at 24 where he offers very little as a pass rusher.

I don’t think they will draft a.receiver unless it is a Dez situation. Top 5 talent falling to 24. Although I am hearing great things about London USC. Draft show pumping up the Alabama receiver who tore his ACL in the championship game. Please no!!!

If the cowboys want Mathis he will be there at 24.And will probably be available in round 2, but you may have to move up to get him. I don’t think he’s as good a prospect as Barmore who went early on round 2.

The Arkansas Samuel clone too. I really would rather go in another direction. They still can draft a WR, but not this high unless a CeeDee situation happens again.

It will depend on his arm length, DQ likes long arms.

Day 3 prospect? Says who?

With Gallup likely walking in FA we're going to need a 3rd WR...I think re-signing Wilson is a good safety net but if one of the top WR falls to our 1st or 2nd pick I wouldn't be surprised or mad about the pick depending on the board.

Mathis looks a little slow off the ball and doesn't appear to have + lateral agility. I think he could be a solid rotational player but not sure he's really upgrading what we have.

Not even sure I'd take him in the 2nd.
