Mathis looks a little slow off the ball and doesn't appear to have + lateral agility. I think he could be a solid rotational player but not sure he's really upgrading what we have.

Not even sure I'd take him in the 2nd.

I think he’s a more well rounded prospect than Barmore. Just not the get off and pass rush ability despite the 9 sacks this year. Guys with that level of talent usually don’t drop too far. And considering where we are drafting I’d have no problem if we took him in round 2.

I don’t think he’s even close to Barmore…Barmore was an explosive athlete with much more lateral agility IMO.

Mathis is more stout as a run defender and a better athlete than you give him credit for. He’s not athletically equal to Barmore but unles some kind of red flag pops up during the evaluation process he’s every bit a round 2 prospect.

Id disagree about his athleticism but I guess we’ll find out for sure at the combine. Looks a little slow off the snap and stiff in the hips to me.

I’d have Barmore almost a full round ahead of him as a prospect.

Barmore had real questions about how he would hold up against the run. I don’t have those questions with Mathis.

But it has nothing to do with his power / athleticism it was more just instincts and awareness. That’s why I didn’t have him as a first rounder.

Mathis may be ok against the run, but again, if he doesn’t test out as a + athlete at the combine my concerns are confirmed and he has no business being drafted in the first 2 rounds. You can get a run plugged in the 5th.

Right now Ridgeway is being viewed as more of an early day 3 prospect, due to being more of a 2 down player. There is almost zero chance this front office takes Davis at 24 where he offers very little as a pass rusher.

I think there is alot of upside to Ridgeway. He may end up the best big DT in the this draft. He fits Quinns mold too, he should be able to play 4i ala Red Bryant. I do think he is probably a late 3rd, early 4th guy.

I thought Davis would be on the radar if we hired Zimmer. Zimmer values that kind of DT

Someone said Barmore was a 1 tech? Holy Larry!!!! Don't ever listen to them again. Barmore is a 3 tech pass rusher type, plain and simple. Don't get me wrong, he can slide to 1 tech on pass rush downs, but overall he is not a 1 tech. His leverage issues at the NFL level would be glaring.

They are wrong. Dead wrong. It's so bad that it's ridiculous. I can name you 4+ other websites that have John Ridgeway III rated in the 2nd & 3rd rounds with the potential to move up into the 1st round depending on his Senior Bowl performance and the NFL Combine.

Mostly, gotta have the right height/weight combo to play the 1. Sure, there have been a few exceptions of taller guys who could anchor(Barry Cofield, for example), but those types are rare.

Barmore isn’t a 1T he’s a 3T…if you don’t have the athleticism to be a + pass rushing DT in the NFL you’re not getting drafted early. I don’t think Mathis does but let’s see what the combine says.

Agree. He and other Georgia DT have my interest this off-season

I've been seeing Ridgeway ranked as late first, early second.
