This is a nice observation. We give up a bit against the run by scheme.

I hope people don’t look at every 7 yard run as an indictment against our interior d-line.

You don’t play with 6 DBs, several out of position, and expect to have the box stacked very down.

It’s part of our defensive philosophy.
Unfortunately most don't.

We play the pass on every down. We try and stop the run along the way.

Some run plays will be ugly.

But if this offense can score some points, this defense will keep teams playing catchup. Which means less running and more passing. Which plays into our strength.

This defense has a chance to be one of those rare defenses that are being talked about many years later, like we do the 85 Bears or the 2000 Ravens.
I don't think the final results will look like either of those two teams because of all the rules in place to protect QB and receivers, and the league's predisposition to ignore many holding calls to protect quarterbacks.

Comparing it to historically great: we lack monster run defense from LVE, and we don't have superior DTs. Given the pass-centric nature of the league I can live with that.

I'd be happy if we are #1 defense for this season, which may be well in our reach.

Edge, safety depth is special. The ability to forge turnovers and sacks is top-drawer.

Now they were a bad offense and Dallas needs to wait to prove themselves against real weapons?
We faced a mediocre offense in their first game on a very, very wet field. One game. The tap-the-brakes message of some here is merited, as is the optimism.

It was crazy fun. The potential is obvious to all. But let's not eat the cheese too generously after game one.

Newest version of Doomsday will be fun to watch.

You beat me to the punch! Not quite ready to anoint then yet but last night was a step in the right direction. That performance takes a back seat to no defense we’ve ever put on the field.

My guess before the game wasn't too far off. (see below) This defense if special, very special. If we run MM offense the way it should be, with these weapons, we will be in every game. I was excited for this year to start, now I need to level myself up a bit.

Cowboys come out fast and put it away early. I'm a fence-sitter, but I think Dak puts on a show early and the game is over by halftime because the defense takes Daniel's soul by his fourth drive. I think this team can be scary good, but still a bit worried about the makeup of our QB's mental game.

The D looks awesome and hungry. Bell taking the role Overshown was gonna play appears like a great move by DQ. Imagine once O is in there next year. MP did his thing and the cast was relentless. I like when they put their foot on your neck and don't take it off. That's the way a great D plays. I agree it's one game...On to the next one....Rodgers in our sights. That will be a great test. :flagwave:

This defense has a chance to be one of those rare defenses that are being talked about many years later, like we do the 85 Bears or the 2000 Ravens.

The Dallas defense has the unbelievably difficult combination of very good coverage on the backend with a phenomenal pass rush up front. You see good defenses in the NFL and they usually have one or the other. The fact that Dallas has it on both ends of the defense makes it extremely difficult to beat. It doesn’t mean that they will go undefeated but it is going to be a nightmare to try to beat.

The secondary just didn’t really allow anyone on the Giants to get open and Micah and company gave Jones almost no time to try to find anyone to throw to.

That combination is rare, elite, or any other word you want to come up with but it is an unreal unit and it should keep the Cowboys in every game this season. Enjoy it guys because there just aren’t defenses very often that is this good.

Hell of a job putting that defense together. Kudos all around.
Slow ur roll. 2000 ravens shouldn’t ever be mentioned with another defense.

Not to be a debbie downer, but this is only week 1. You guys have been around long enough to know how looooong an NFL season lasts. So many things can happen.

I still wonder how Micah is going to hold up after Week 12. He has faded the first two seasons, because of fatigue and knocks and bruises. Is he suddenly going to be Megatron for 20 straight weeks?

Of course, the defense has to avoid serious injuries or eating their own cheese. Those Bears and Ravens defenses were consistent from week one through the SuperBowl. Their players stayed healthy and never faded.

Can we do this? There is a long season ahead.
Agree that Micah needs to protected from injury once we get and have control of a game. He needs to sit along with our other stars on D. Give the second tier players reps. This is a long season!

I saw some of the best defense I have ever watched being played in the NFL. This team has the potential to be talked about as being one of the best ever. But that's only if they continue to play this way all season. Injuries can derail any team's season, at any moment. But apart from that I have seriously high hopes that the "special" I think we have here, is 100% legit.

But, although I am a total Cowboys homer, I am also a skeptic. I have been burned sooo many times in the past after a dominating win like this, only to watch the season slip away. I'm very anxious to see what they do against A Aron and all those weapons the other NY team has next week. If they have a similar game as this one against those WR's and that QB especially, then maybe, just maybe you can go ahead and buy your plane tickets for February 11 to Nevada.
But I will wait to see the results of that game before I fully commit to my optimistic belief.

Aside from that first drive I thought we played the run better thereafter. I noticed on a couple plays Hankins (and mazi on one or two) making a difference.
Agreed but it wasn’t because of 55. I saw him numerous time filling a gap while the RB was trucking right through the other one. The improved run defense came from the never ending wave of hybrid safeties making play after play.
