I've seen videos where an adult lion will capture a baby antelope or warthog. Instead of immediately eating it, they will prod the little deer to make it run. Then the lion will chase it down again. The lion is literally playing with his food.

That's what this defense today reminded me of. They were just playing with their food.
With the Hungry Lion in the midst.

I'm not going to lie. Watching that 1st drive I was thinking "we are getting gashed"...." I thought we addressed this". Then Juanyeh blocked the punt and we dialed it up to 11
I think a huge segment of Cowboys fans shared that same feeling in that time frame as you. I know I did.

Agree largely but need to wait a few weeks

2 questions that need answers:

1. Lets see how we do against the best QBs

2. Lets see how we do against an RPO and run heavy team like Philly or niners

Allowed:

Yards per play 2.6
Yards per run 3.9
Yards per pass 1.7
Sacks 7

General observation team speed makes it difficult to turn the corner on them. Clark plays an important roll.
Absolutely true. The collective speed of this defense just jumps out at you. And the addition of Gilmore adds another dimension offenses have to factor.
It's one game, sure. But Im still looking for Giants' HC Daboll's explanation why he had Daniel Jones playing late in the game (down 33-0), dealing with this defense. Not smart.

Just heard Daboll's answer (leaving Daniel Jones in til late). We wanted to leave him in until that series late. With the hopes "that we could get something positive going". OK, coach. But there may not be a quarterback in the NFL that would've gotten anything positive vs. that Dallas defense.

This defense has a chance to be one of those rare defenses that are being talked about many years later, like we do the 85 Bears or the 2000 Ravens.

The Dallas defense has the unbelievably difficult combination of very good coverage on the backend with a phenomenal pass rush up front. You see good defenses in the NFL and they usually have one or the other. The fact that Dallas has it on both ends of the defense makes it extremely difficult to beat. It doesn’t mean that they will go undefeated but it is going to be a nightmare to try to beat.

The secondary just didn’t really allow anyone on the Giants to get open and Micah and company gave Jones almost no time to try to find anyone to throw to.

That combination is rare, elite, or any other word you want to come up with but it is an unreal unit and it should keep the Cowboys in every game this season. Enjoy it guys because there just aren’t defenses very often that is this good.

Hell of a job putting that defense together. Kudos all around.
I still need to see it against a strong, rushing offense. Agree about their pass defense, very special.

The defense didn’t look very special initially on the Giants opening drive. They were moving down the field methodically gashing us with the run. We eventually tightened up and the blocked FG changed everything. I’m not about to anoint the defense until I see how it progresses during the season. We’ve started off seasons good defensively only to fade later on. It’s a long season let’s see if the defense can maintain its level of play once we get to December and January.

It works perfectly in connection with the offense. The defense has as stated, a tough secondary and a very aggressive and deep defensive line.

With Dallas ahead in a game, that defense can push a team to catch up.

Right now, the defense is a bit weak straight up the middle front on a run. Against a team such as San Francisco and Philadelphia, the running back with the 49'ers and quarterback for the Eagles will make it hard to curb points against them. That aspect of the defense will have to improve in controlling an opponent.

Agreed last night, it was able to put out all drives one way or another.

Great bunch of guys...

If I'm not mistaken, they're playing him in the role carved out for Overshown. He certainly showed out. Very impressive player.
The linebackers should be set for next season...and pair with the safeties with evaluations for off season changes down the road.

I just heard Dan Orlovsky mention a stat. The Giants had 62 offensive plays last night and 30 of them was for zero or negative yards. That’s freaking crazy!

Bell needs to be talked about. Since last preseason I’ve known that he is a big hitter and a very strong tackler but damn, I think I was under rating him. He arrives at the ball hard and fast and guys just go down immediately when he does. That fumble he caused was a routine play but was a thing of beauty. He is just one of those guys that hit like a ton of bricks and you can’t really explain why. Sort of like Roy Williams 31. He is a load.

He and Juanyeh Thomas need to get plays every week.
I remember watching him play 2 years ago at FAMU when they played Deion’s Jackson St. team in Miami. The guy was all over the field. Even sacked Deion’s son Shedeur, JSU’s QB. I said then that I hoped the Cowboys could get him. I was beyond hyped when we signed him as a UDFA in 2022.

It wasn’t just the game. All pre-season we’ve been wondering if this is the best defense in the league. Saying on paper it’s amazing.

Then we hear the Giants are much improved and we do that to them!

Thomas set the tone early and came up with some huge stops against the run that looked like possible big-gainers. It was also Thomas' blocked field goal that opened the scoring and took the air out of a ravenous MetLife Stadium and he delivered a crucial block on Graham Gano on the scoop-and-score.

It was a dream NFL debut for Thomas, but Bell might have one-upped his teammate. The second-year defender led Dallas with eight tackles (six solo), which included blowing up a Saquon Barkley run on third down for a seven-yard loss.

Whenever there was a play to be made in the box, it felt like Bell was right in the thick of it. The Cowboys' pass rush will get most of the credit for Sunday's performance, but Bell was immense in the second level of the defense.

Dan Quinn has to find a way to get both Thomas and Bell on the field moving forward, even when Donovan Wilson returns from his calf injury.

What I saw Sunday was special, but with the Cowboys, I'm wait and see. I want to see if they can string multiple dominant defensive games before I crown them.

Can they play another dominant game and not get complacent? That's been one of the biggest knocks against the team is after a big win, we come in complacent the next game and lose.

What I see from the next game is going to tell me a lot about what this defense really is. If it's Zach Wilson, they should shut him down. Aaron Rodgers? He should be limited under 20. Sporadic games where we are destroying QBs and other games where we are getting stonewalled isn't going to cut it. I want to see if we can keep that pass rush up consistently.

If you have a hole in your pocket...it's OK to go ahead and sew it up.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Parsons is on a whole nother level this year, and several other guys too.

It's really something to see. The offense isn't too bad either. I'd say top 2 defense with a top 5 offense. Our chances of going to the bowl are about 25 percent, imo.

You wait and see folks are a little pathetic. Put em on the table or go home.
