It’s actually really interesting looking at this draft and trying to project the vision for this team, ESPECIALLY the defense….and I think I’m starting to see it.

Imagine first downs with ultra heavy packages up front (S. Williams/fehoko, Mazi, Hankins, Lawrence) and Micah, LVE, and Overshown/Neal playing linebacker with the option to blitz from multiple spots. That’s hard to run on, a blitz can kill your throw timing, and overshown/Neal can cover your TE or HB

You can tailor your packages from balanced to ‘rush’ packages based on 1st down gains and game situations.

The more I look at these picks, the more it seems like Dan is trying to dominate early downs to allow our strong rush game to get more opportunities. Too many times got first downs on 2nd down. No longer. I think he wants to go from “bend but don’t break” to “make them earn every yard”. Love it

Agreed. Specially with speed group he has with ability to drop into coverage or attack the line and blitz from any position. It's a hybrid 3-4.

No reason we shouldn’t be a top 3 defense if not the best. Quinn has no excuses at this point. They have given him everything he could ask for.

Running downs might be Armstrong/Fehoko, 5-tech Golston/Odighizuwa, 1-tech Hankins/Mazi, 3-tech Mazi/Odighizuwa, Lawrence/Fehoko; linebackers LVE, Parsons, Clark

Passing downs: Parsons/Williams, Fehoko/Odigihizuwa, Lawrence/Armstrong, Fowler/Williams; linebackers Overshown, Clark/LVE, Kearse

Quinn has used multiple fronts.

Neal is gone. Maybe you mean Clark.

Almost always when they've had 2 other LBs on the field, Parsons was at DE.
- i.e. They've rarely played a 4-3. It's almost always 4-2-5.
- The 4-2-5 is split between Nickel and Big Nickel (3 Safety Sets).
- If you want to consider Kearse as a LB in 3 Safety sets, then you could call that a 4-3.

I heard all of McCarthy, Stephen and McClay mention that they wanted to improve on 1st/2nd downs to give them better 3rd down yardage situations.
- McCarthy referenced that on both defense and offense.

 Fehoko may not even be good enough to make the roster and some are penciling him in as a starter.
When was the last time the Cowboys cut a 4th round pick or a 5th for that matter. Two 5th round picks from last season started games for the Cowboys.

It's going to be the same lineup as last year besides maybe a tweak or two. Y'all doing too much with Fehoko, Sam is and was a much better prospect and he started nothing...Fehoko isn't leapfrogging all these veteran DEs.

Mazi will take over Carlos Watkins spot as a 1T/3T guy in the rotation. Sam Williams plays the run better than DA, so you may see a adjustment at RE on early downs.

Also, I don't see Overshown playing more than Clark would. Right now, I got Clark next to LVE.

They played 4-3 "base" something like 3% of snaps last year. The 3-4 vs. 4-3 distinction and schemes are irrelevant.

This defense is never going to stop the Eagles 3rd and 1/ 4th and 1 bs. The focus is stopping them on first and 2nd down to keep them out of that situation.

We are better equipped for doing that.

They're hoping Overshown will be the next Jayron Kearse. After watching some film on him it seems he's in a similar mold, but he also has pass rush ability. Love that pick.

the main reason is you wont get to play some of the terrible quarterbacks and offenses Dallas did last year. They also had luck go their way in a few games when their opponents offense was seriously depleted due to injury like the Lions were.

Not to many Joshua Dobbs, Davis Mills or Gardner Minshews on the schedule this year. You do get Sam Howell twice I guess though.

There is quite a bit of pressure here on Dan Quinn. The Jones family have backed him to the hilt, in my opinion in their eyes they view him at the same level as MM and we have 2 head coaches. We have a generational player in Parsons and it remains to be seen if this coaching staff can get the best out of him. The clock is ticking and when I think of Parsons I think the same way as we do RB's. There is only so much tread on the tyres. He needs to be preserved at times and his best work needs to be post December. From what I saw last season, I'm not sure there was a good strategy as to how to use him correctly.

Defense is so stacked

Tank Mazi Osa Parsons
LVE Clark Kearse
Diggs Hooper Wilson Gilmore

Armstrong Hankins Golston Williams
Overshown Cox Lewis
Bland Mukuamu Bell/Scott Wright

And this does not consider depth pieces like Fowler, Bohanna and the other rookies. That secondary on the second string looks a little light but we are legit 4 deep at corner and safety.
