This draft will be a huge success if :

1. Claiborne becomes a top 10 corner over the life of his contract.

2. Wilbur takes over for Spencer next year.

Everything over and above that is gravy, because it will save us a back breaking contract for corner and OLB next year.

I think Hanna makes the roster. In the event that Witten gets hurt, I think Hanna has a breakout year and will turn out to be a great insurance policy as a receiving tight end in place of Witten. I think as of right now, he will be the #2 tight end in 2 tight end sets, as a receiver.

i think claiborne is expected to be a top 5 corner.

I agree.....and if he is, all we need is another starter and a good role player and those 3 would make this a successful draft....

Claiborne shouldn't define the draft. What if Claiborne is the next Alan Ball, but Wilbur is the next Lawrence Taylor and McScurty is the next Ray Lewis? To most people, that would make this a great draft. Won't count on that though.

I would hope ones expectations for claiborne would be a lot higher than being top third in the league. He should be a top 3-5 corner.

:laugh2: Good point!

Top 10 is not successful for Claiborne.

Well that was where TNew was early in his career and most thought he was a success (leaving my own personal thoughts out of this).

They drafted McSurdy to play fullback.

He wont step on the field as an automatic top 10 corner I dont believe. In fact he may get used and abused as a rookie. Patrick Peterson is the exception IMO not the rule.

I think he has the potential to be great though.

This draft is a success if we see progress from the majority of the players drafted. I think we need to see one immediate starter and at least two players that show the ability to become starters in short order (IE, a year to two years time). I would say that two of these players would also need to show the ability to contribute on special teams as well. Overall, the draft is a success if the team improves upon last season and these players are a part of that improvement process.

That is what I would term success as for this draft.

Tnew was not the blue chip draft pick Caiborne is.

Good points and to add to it, if these non starters can push our existing starters to be better than its also a success.

He could be around top 10 as a rookie.

The players that we drafted actually contribute to our football team. I feel confident that they will, and they are all Right Kind of Guys you want to have on your football team.

I think Claiborne is definitely going to contribute immediately.

Crawford should contribute early on, but the others I'm not sure about.

I trust our coaching staff to get the most out of them.

Well to be fair, TNew was taken #5 overall and also considered a blue chipper when he was drafted even though he was 37 when we drafted him.

Being top 10 isn't that bad when you consider there are 60+ starting CBs in the league not counting nickel guys.

My hope is top 5, but I won't be too disappointed with top 10 from Claiborne, especially when we are talking about his rookie season.

For a couple of years Newman was top 5...He didn't get the INTs to show it because teams didn't throw at him. Also, he had hands of stone :laugh2:

He didn't do it for a long time or have the great impact that I think people wanted. Part of that was because he played on some defenses that were devoid of talent other than him, part was because he always had nagging injuries, and part was that he didn't consistently make big plays. But in terms of shutting down WRs, he was very, very good.

Um, yes he absolutely was.
Guess I just don't remember there being as much hype. If there was then I don't think I'd concider TNew a success.
