Time's running out on Romo and Witten. Without those 2, we don't sniff 5 wins, so this draft is crucial if the team has any chance in the next year or 2.

Agree on Romo, I think we could still hit 8-8 without Witten.

Lol, so everyone that's replied to me...You've all be fooled. I tend to be optimistic about a lot of things in life. However, with the Cowboys, Jerry has shown me a pattern that he'll never deviate from. It's not that I am negative, I am no longer hanging on any decision that he's made.

He has you fooled. Our new OC isn't going to accomplish very much because our HC is still going to have his hands all over the offense. Our key lies in establishing some sort of threat by running. and yes, sometimes we have to run into a wall to at least keep the D guessing but we really don't do that...at least not with any consistency.

Our DC is the one bright spot here and he could do well but look at his best player...a linebacker that can't make it through the season without being hurt.

...but Jerry still has you fooled. He's only making minor changes that keep him free from blame (in your eyes) when he's still the problem. Until that change is made, it's going to be a crap shoot if we make it to the dance or not. Sure we can catch lightning in a bottle with him at the helm but that's about it.

If the Cowboys are to have any chance of going deep into the playoffs with the core players they have, they must do well with this draft. They've been 8-8 the past 3 years and aren't' that far away from making the playoffs. A better defense is all that's needed. They are just a good draft away. Based on Jerry's past performances at drafting, I don't have much hope of that happening, but a blind squirrel can find a nut from time to time. And if he trades up to take Manziel, then he's just after the jersey sales proceeds.

It's not impossible for the defense to be much improved from last season with just the existing players on the roster if everybody stays healthy.

Stability of having the same player that were in training camp playing in the game would be a huge boost.

There are several 2nd year players that got experience like Wilcox and Holloman.

There are many players coming back from injury like Lee, Crawford, Bass and several other that were in and out with injuries like Claiborne and Carter.

Having Lee for the entire season would probably be better than the version of Ware that played in 2013; therefore, in terms of star players they could be in better shape if Lee can make it though the season.

The new additions like Mincey and McClain might be blue collar types, but they are legit NFL players, unlike many of the 17+ DL that were cycled through last season.

For next season maybe. But I think you are depending way too much on what kind of influence a group of rookies is going to have in their first season. We could hit on every pick and it still might not have that big of an impact this year.

Depending on the 17th pick in the draft, whoever we pick, to step in and dominate his first season, especially when he is not surrounded by much other talent around him, is asking a lot. Even if he turns into a stud down the road. Demarcus Ware only had 8 sacks his first year. Many other very, very good defensive players had a lot less their rookie year.

To me the key for this year is that guys like Crawford, Wilber, Wilcox and even Claiborne have to pan out into legitimate NFL players (or in Claiborne's case reach the potential he was drafted for) for us to have a chance. Its the previous 2 drafts not busting that is more crucial for this season.

I disagree. I think that it is important that we pick the players that will fit in the system of our new Head Coach in 2015.

Well, okay. That's one of multiple reasons that it's important.

But it's not important in the way that people, including the OP, normally argue. There is no way this draft is going to send us deep into this year's playoffs. It certainly could make us more competitive but that's true by definition.

By many accounts this draft is defense-poor so I'm not expecting to much help defensively.

Deep into the playoffs? Let's just get into the playoffs for starters.

Just saying......All the experts on TV are saying this is the best draft in at least 10 years.
