This has to be a non-Jerry draft-fix the trenches

I'm aiming a little higher. I want players that can alter the opponents game plan. When we played the Bucs we knew we weren't going to run inside so Moore had to come up with a quick short passing game to attack them. If we had a dominant NT our LBs could run free and we might be able to let Kearse or Wilson roam instead of run blitzing. When we had our best OL we ran the ball no matter what the front. When they started playing run first it opened up the passing game for Dak. A new LG and OC could do that for us. We may not be able to get the best OC who could be on the small side anyway but we could get the other two.

Me too…but those players are usually taken at 24.

We might catch an outlier but at 24 I’m hoping for someone that can make an impact year 1 and turn into a quality starter by year 2 on a cheaper contract.

They will probably take the highest player on the board at 24 and I can't argue with that. If it turned out to be Linderbaum, Green, or Johnson I would be thrilled . It's still early, I'm looking forward to the upcoming scouting combine, but Travis Jones had a great Senior Bowl and might be there in round two.

Our OL was at it's peak when they had Leary/Frederick/Martin handling the interior. Our run game was dominate, but it also gave Romo a clean pocket where there wasn't any interior pressure.

King of the opposite of what we had this year. Linderbaum, Green, or Johnson. I saw a Bobby Belt report that they were taking a look at Trevor Penning at the senior bowl.

Penning reminds me of Marc Columbo, you can play him at Right Tackle, even inside at Guard. He will get a push in the run game and almost impossible to bull rush him. Really like him, but probably goes higher then our pick due to his Senior Bowl performance. Dane recently mentioned a possible sleeper G/C-Cole Strange.

Same. Justin Jefferson was drafted at 22. Ed Reed at 24. Tj Watt at 29 (ugh). That's just top of my head.

There are years where impact players are available well into the 20s. If they are there, you take them and eschew the immediate need

It’s a fallacy that Jerry only drafts flash
It’s just that they have been misses
CWilliams,McGovern and Badasz/ Badasz may not get replaced this year
But ya we need trenches all the way around

Sort of.

What's not a fallacy is that Jerry refuses to analyze prospects but insists on being a huge part of the draft process. That we know for certain.

Sure there's always the exception, but the lower you go the lower percentage is of hitting.

I actually think we've been drafting fairly well since McClay has become more involved. I think the bigger issue is Jerry/ Stephen and how and how bad some of our contracts have been which has basically eliminated us from being able to be active in FA.

Zeke's contract alone is an absolute team wrecker...completely kills us even if he was still one of the top 5 RBs in football which he's not. Then they waited on Dak and pushed his cost up about 8 million per. Jaylon Smith...sigh.

I've seen Strange taken in the third in a Cowboys mock.

I would keep an eye on Daxton Hill, Michigan Safety. Broaddus keeps bringing him up when talking about the Cowboys draft choice at 24. I remember Broaddus would say last season that the Cowboys liked Parsons and if the corners were taken, Micah would be the pick. Say what you want about Brian but he knows a few guys inside the Star. He called the LVE in March when the guy was considered a second round pick.

Hill is an excellent fit in Quinn’s man coverage scheme, athletic, fast and can play multiple positions. Might not be the ball hawk Earl Thomas was, but he is a very similar prospect
