This is a good team

It depends on their competition.

They are a good team against the worst teams in the NFL.

They are not a good team against the above average teams.
To an extent, sure. But they've beaten some good teams along the way too. But never enough to be considered elite.

There is not a single team in all of North American sports that has its owner as GM. We act as if the Cowboys are a normal team in professional sports, we are NOT.

There is absolutely no accountability for DECADES of failure.

Does anyone believe that if Jerry was immortal and lived to 1000 years old he EVER reach the status of GM???? And even if he reached that status he would have been fired 10 times over at this point.

As long as the Jones family is the GM of the club we will all SUFFER..... PERIOD... I wish it wasn't the case but fact are facts

EDIT: "This is a good Team" - Please give me what you are having.
We got smoked last year too, by a bad Arizona team, for example and we still won the division. This team has just enough players to be good, meaning make a run at the playoffs but they are never great enough to be a serious threat. That's been a pretty consistent theme for the better part of a decade for this team.

And it's because the owner seems content with just being in the conversation. He's too cheap (and stubborn) to want to do what's really necessary to try to make this team great.

Now having said that, this year is unique because of the lame duck status of McCarthy. Lose next week and suddenly, you start to see the prospects of this thing coming off the rails. Why would they then play for a lame duck coach?

And that's the problem. They are typically a "good" team. They are never a "great" team.

Now every once in awhile they can be a "bad" team, and to be fair given the lame duck status of McCarthy this could be a team that gives up and implodes on themselves, but more often than not they are a "good" team. Just never a great team. Good teams win divisions here and there and make the playoffs. But they also get bounced early and are never a threat.

That's Dallas. Rarely bad, mostly good, never great. And that's all because the GM is cheap and at some point in his GM tenure became scared of taking risks and pushing the chips all in.
Been saying this for awhile now. Yup, good but not great. This is of no suprise.

Blame it on McCarthy? He’s not the biggest problem, he can only coach the players he’s given, which Dak takes credit for having lesser talent due to how much of salary cap he’s absorbed. Sucks but it is what it has been for the past eight years, now thirteen. See ya in five years

Something feels different and I want to be positive but there is so many wrong that we might not even make it to the play offs. I hope I"m wrong and these guys use this loss to go forward.

McCarthy is a boob.

He should have been fired the next day after GB. The Cowboys should also have gone to Dak and told them they are starting afresh with a new coach and tearing apart the roster and for him to work out a trade somewhere.

Instead, Jerry stuck with both and what you will get is another season where they just miss the playoffs or get bounced in the first round.

FWIW, "good" as I mean it has a pretty wide range. Bad is a team that just stinks and spits out 5-6 wins. Great is one that actually makes noise. The rest just falls in the large cavern in between. You are certainly right that this team will probably have an average season. But history has shown we typically squeeze out 9+ wins a year but then soil ourselves right at the start of the playoffs.

I mean you’re right. They’re a good team. But they aren’t better than last year and they continually aren’t good enough to actual make playoff runs.

100% spot on

The sad part of all these yearly disappointments is that we are in a trap. There is no end in sight, as Jerry Jones will continue to be the GM until he departs this earth . Then it's his son's turn. o_O

@Sydla u know way too much for this type of take.

A good team beats other good teams. We dont do that. It took us until December last year to finally defeat a playoff team (Lions).

We arent great in the trenches and now we lack in the skill positions as well. And we damn sure dont have a QB thats going to overcome that on a consistent basis

And now we are stuck with the worst contract in NFL history. Talk about sabotaging a franchise. If Jerry had a wish to take the franchise to the grave with him...he may have succeeded today.

I think people are taking the term "good" way too far. And I should have probably been more clear that I was talking bigger picture here - the franchise as a whole, especially recently.

This team seems to be in the same mold as all the others. There were some bad teams - the ones where Dak was out and we had tons of injuries and then mostly teams that were fringe playoff or playoff teams. This seems like another of the latter.

What we never have is a a great team. Our ceiling always seems to be just good.

No doubt this team has talent, but they are soft physically, weak mentally, are not held accountable and have this sense of entitlement…most of which is fostered by Jerry Jones.
This team lacks direction and consistency and no respectable coach will come to Dallas to have Jerry interfering with and undermining the head coach’s authority…so Dallas instead signs retreads that have been out of work like Zimmer and McCarthy.

It's all about "hanging around the rim", we don't need to be great, just need to be good enough. Kinda like McDonalds, not great, but good enough and put the effort into marketing. Jerry may be scared of taking risks, but think he also figured out the formula to be successful, financially. Risk/reward, we would probably make even more money with a great team, but that requires a lot more work, effort and risk or play it safe and still be the most valuable and profitable team in the world.
