Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne was walking out of the training room at halftime when he overheard Romo telling team trainers, “No, I don’t need that. I’m going back out and I’m playing.”

“Romo’s tough,” Claiborne said Wednesday, a day after mentioning the story on his weekly Turf Talk radio show on 103.3 KESN-FM. “The position that he plays, and the things he does, and taking hits like that, and bruising his ribs. He’s our starting quarterback and for him to say, ‘No matter what, I’m going back in this game.’ When I heard him say that, I was like, ‘Wow.’ It just goes to show how tough he is, and I think he rubs off on all of us.”

I agree that this sort of leadership is critical to success

I also don't anyone that's been paying attention doubts romo is tough and works hard

I agree, anyone can give a rah rah speech it take a real man to gut it out when you know they are in pain. Those guys see it and they know Romo will put it on the line, it means a lot.

He may not be a leader like Ray Lewis where he pumps up the team with a rally speech, but he sure as heck does lead by his actions. Whoever says Romo is not a leader is full of it, he just leads in a different way, and this here proves it. Other guys DO look up to Romo and see how tough he is, it rubs off on them.

Good article by the way, I always love reading stuff like this that occurs on the sideline, because during the game we never see/hear about these things.

I think that both sorts of leadership are required

This team has several leaders by example like romo, witten, ware, lee but we do need vocal leaders as well and maybe Dez and Fred can be those

Dez called romo one of the toughest players he has ever seen two years ago after playing in the skins game.

I remember him saying if he can play with that injury then I have to play with mine.

Lee evidently is very vocal and Dez is but frankly talk is cheap show me that you are willing to put it on the line and I will follow a lot quicker than some guy giving some speech.

Say what you want about tony, but the kid is tough as nails. Even the giants fans were talking about him being a warrior last game.

I agree with you
Let me put it this way.... It starts with leaders by example because without that there is nothing but empty talk

BUT once you have that, I really believe that you need some vocal guys who are leaders as well

Football is a game of precision and practice but it is also a game of emotion and of the will to win

At least that is what I believe

I don't see guys lacking emotions I think like any team even Ray Lewis teams when you are getting the crud kicked out of you guys hang their heads, when things are going good it is not hard to get guys all pumped up on the sideline sometimes too much that they start lacking disapline. Nothing wrong with a guy like an Irvin encouraging guys to step up I'm not saying that

I'd let Romo lead my team any day. The guy is tough and wants to win.

I love the toughness of both him and my boy Witten.

I think if I played with Ray Lewis, the first time he gave a rah rah speech, I would be all fired up and ready to run through a wall.

But week after week and game after game, that rah rah stuff has got to get old.

It lasts for about 3 plays.

I would follow a leader that gave it all on the field.

Yea, i was going to post the same thing...though I thought it was after the 9ers game.

Either way, the point is that Romo is a tough sonofa, and he obviously has the respect of his teammates.

Some would some wouldn't not every one responds the same way. Nothing wrong with rah rah speeches but some want to see the actions behind the words that it what some will respond to. Aikman sure as heck was not rah rah but guys knew Troy would hang in there and take the hit to make the play and his teammates respected him because it was not his words but his own butt he was puttting on the line for them.

Guys as I said nothing wrong with rah rah stuff but they lose their effectiveness over a period of time it you ain't laying it on the line on the field those words sound empty after a while. I think Ray did most of that to pump himself up more than anyone else.
