The Texas Rangers are the World Series Champs.

The Dallas Stars finished the regular season with the second best record in the league and begin the playoffs highly favored to win the Cup.

Following the trade deadline, the Dallas Mavericks have looked unstoppable. They begin the playoffs with the fourth highest odds to win it all.

If, somehow, the Stars and Mavs can replicate the Rangers, Jerry and his team will look like area stepchildren. Yes, the Cowboys will always have the spotlight on them, but sometimes that's a bad thing. As of now, every area sports team has won a championship since the Cowboys have even made it to the NFC Championship Game. If all the other area teams can win Chips in the same year, that's gonna really overcook ol' Jerr's grits.

Jerry doesn't care what the other area franchises are doing. Do you want to know what would REALLY get his attention? It's this....

This is what needs to happen to the Jones family.

The only thing that will make Jerry change is seeing empty seats at the stadium. A drop in attendance would get his attention. Fans continue to buy what he’s selling and the popularity of the team continues to rise despite the lack of playoff success.

Well, we all know that not happening because Cowboys ticket holders sell their tickets. it would be at least half full.
And I'm sure that's exactly why Jerry did the PSL's the way he did. Someone will always have to pay, whether they skip the games or not.

Jerry will threaten to move the Cowboys to Little Rock if that happens which would still be a win for Dallas. We could work out a Browns/Ravens deal where we get a new franchise that inherits the Cowboys' history, and Jerry can go to hell.

The stars aren’t heavily favored to win anything. They’re not even a top 4 favorite. They’re 5th or 6th favorite to win the cup.

That's all there is to it really. The Cowboys fill the stadium and draw the biggest ratings every week. As long as that happens, all is well to the Jones boys.

The most effective change is Jerry and Stephen Jones removing themselves from football operations and replacing themselves with qualified football executives. The success of immediate area sports franchises will not coerce them into taking this action. Ditto decreased football attendance. Likewise, reduction in merchandising revenue. Etc.

The key is convincing (Jerry Jones in particular) that his management philosophy has always been substandard in achieving the goals he vomits to the public year-in year-out. That entails a psychological approach towards modifying his thought processes from him being invaluable (which he isn't) in running the team to comprehending he can achieve his goals without his direct input.

You still believe that Jones is a sportsman or interested in sporty success. And you think he is emotionally involved like a fan. For whom a bad reputation of his team is a reason to change.

JJ is a businessman. His goal is to earn money and power.

If his revenue or his influence goes down he will change his business approach.

Nothing else.

Of course, but even if that eventually happens, any major free signing would have to be approved at the owner level, and we know how Stevie feels about spending his inheritance on players.

I also don’t see him resisting sticking his nose in after being fully involved, especially if a few things don’t go right initially.

This is why I have little hope for at least the next decade.

You mean, what was happening with major free agent signings and player spending exactly before March 29, 1994? Jones and DNA Kid #1 were compliant before then. I am not suggesting a reinvention of the wheel. Just that it is way past time to buy new tires because the old ones went bald before the turn of the century.

What makes you think Jerry cares about what other teams in the city are doing lol? They've all been more successful than the Cowboys the past 28 years.....he has the luxury of being in the NFL and having the richest team.

NHL playoffs are tough to call, but the Stars are playing solid hockey at the right time.

Certainly not against you here.

Tough comp though. Free agency and the cap were brand new back then.

I just don’t know that hiring a GM in title would change much. The problem IMO is about not recognizing that they need to use free agency. The owners still would be involved in any significant signing, and if the GM thinks they need a player, but the owner doesn’t want to pay him, we are in the same spot as we are now.
