THIS is the RB we need... Barber III

I'm getting flashbacks here, everyone on this board was saying the exact same thing about Troy Hambrick. Really! Do you remember how stellar his numbers were behind Emmitt? And when he had to fill in he was a beast. Then Emmitt goes to Arizona, and he's a dud.

I'm not saying that MB3 will be the same, just having some deja-vu here. For the record, I do believe that MB3 is the real deal. But I'm greedy, unless we get a bonafide player or first round pick for Julius, I say keep em both.

Funny how for our "plodding" back almost had exactly as many 20+ yard runs as our "homerun" back in half as many carries.

As "The Genius" said about Emmitt ... "All the draft experts said he was too slow, but everytime I put on the film he was making big runs."

:hammer:

How many of those 20+ yard runs came on 3rd and 54? That is a very misleading stat when comparing julius and marion
Good point. Let's take out all of Barber's 3rd and 4th down plays.

Just on 1st and 2nd downs, Barber had 97 carries for 473 yards. That's comes out to a 4.88 YPC. Clearly Barber was only better because of his 3rd down carries.

Ya, Hambone had 5.1 ypc in 2001, but he also scored 2 tds, then the next year 1. He had 8 total as a Cowboy in 437 att. Barber has scored 19 tds in 273 att. Bottom line, MB3 has a nose for the endzone.

Two things:

1. Look at their stats. They're nothing alike.

2. Watch them run. They're nothing alike.

MB3 runs like his hair is on fire. Hambone ran like everyone else on the field was on fire.

I tend to agree with skaven and kangaroo. I'm skeptical if Barber can carry the load. We KNOW Jones can, but is he consistant enough? The tandem of the two works the best IMO.

Most of that occured in the 4th qtr when the def was wore out by JJ!

Let me take it further: Barber had a good season and it picked up when genius man boobs decided to "rest" JJ during the second part of the season. What was that guy from New Joizy thinkin'?I like Barber. I hate it that JJ was deprived of the chance to run consistently.

I was a strong supporter of JJ, up until the last few weeks of the season, then I finally hung my head and went into the MBIII camp. I still holding onto the hope JJ will pull it together with Bill gone, but MBIII shows a lot better vision.

Side Note: My wife thinks Barber is the best player on the team.

Yeah that extra push he was giving his own linemen by running into them sure tires out those ends and tackles.

Was it him getting hurt and being out for 6 weeks for FALLING ON THE BALL or was it that next year where he missed a lot of time or was it last year when he sucked for all but two games after week 7?

Ok, this stat shows that MB was the better RB:D , Julius only had one good game the last 5 games of the year. And didnt exactly light the world on fire to make himself the surefire starter, I say have them flipflop roles IF we dont trade JJ in the next month....:D

Besides, any boost Barber got in his ypc for his 3rd and long should be balanced by the fact that he was the primary ball carrier in all goalline and short yardage situations. I'm not sure how many "3rd and 53" he had, but he had a heck of a lot 3rd and 4th and 1 where he had to dive into the teeth of the short yardage defense to pick up the first down when everyone knew he was getting the ball.

I just keep living this same thread over and over and over and over and...

extrapolate that into full time, 250-300 carry back, and that 4.88 YPC will no doubt drop to a lower number
