I agree, and I'm perfectly fine with it.
There will be many good starting safeties at that point, but will be at a discount compared to the ones immediately scooped up.

Many? You mean like guys like Tre Boston who this franchise will ignore to sign a bottom feeder like Blanton?

Heath would not be the reason they lose. Many other reasons also.

Heath is the worst safety in football. Our safety play has been the worst for some years now. It's pathetic how we don't value the DT or safety position. And we wonder why this defense continues to let us down. The Seahawks defense was what it was because the back end. Without them, those corners don't look as good.

Based on who is available and if Dallas is really looking to save $$ then Amos or Clinton-Dix will probably be the guys that could have the most impact for the least $$. Still want Earl but Dallas may believe Woods is going to be the real deal at FS and if so then Amos could be the SS that want and then draft a guy mid rounds.

I don’t understand this Amos being super cheap. Most projections have him around 9-10 million a year. Which is a bit steep for a box safety

La Canfora reported it

Amos likely to get paid.

Ha Ha doesn't seem to be a board favorite, but I would love to get him if we could.

Why?

What are you going to do with that money?....thats what's it for, to spend on a better team

well for me, overpaying for a safety and having a bad contract impacts resigning dak, amari, jaylon, zeke if we want to, byron if we want to. in general, to me it isn't about using or not using all your money. it's about paying people what they are worth because a team full of bloated contracts hurts your ability to resign or sign those that you want and should keep.

if we are talking about overpaying for 1 year that's fine. but overpaying for 3 or 4 years impacts the team in the future which is not preferable imo.

Man all I can say after reading all these comments is that there better not be one complaint about an overpay this offseason

I didn't say he was good. I said there are a lot more issues than there was at S

If there ever was a year to get a good safety in free agency it's this year

If Dallas passes up on Earl, Stewart, Honey Badger, Weddle, Vaccaro, Landon Collins, Haha Dix....and sticks with Heath they deserve to lose
Lose like a 2nd round playoff game on the road by 8points to abetter team?

we could use safety haelp but half those guys are long in the tooth and asking for too much$$$ also I remember teams doing the big FA game like the giants spending 200mil on defense alone, had one good year and now fire sailing all those guys..you have to be wise , we have bigger FA of our own that need our cap attention first.

we have the draft as well..deserve to lose you act as if weve been 6-10 7-9 3 years in row and desperate..no need to reach or overpay..

You are hedging yourself like good loyal soldiers do.

This team was not good enough to make a SB run. Plain and simple. They need to add some talent and that includes S and DT. There's no excuse for not striking now when this team is as close as Jerry and Stephen thinks they are. Nickel and diming again in FA would be silly (but frankly expected from these guys).

We also only have 6 picks and no first round pick. So they can't just assume the draft will be what fixes our problems/addresses our clear needs.

In todays NFL you cant pay every spot on the team. I think Dallas has decided not to pay the safety spot.

They don't necessarily have to "pay" to fill the S spot. There were solid mid-level types in FA and likely will be this year as well.

But this franchise has a disappointing habit of overvaluing their home grown guys and missing out on good players that aren't bad contracts. I suspect they will do it again this year in FA.

I really do like Collins. He’d be an enforcer near the LOS and Woods (who I like a lot at FS) would roam deeper.

I’m just not sure that Collins would be worth the money he’ll get on the open market. He’s good at what he does though and he’s still so young. He’d fit perfectly with the rest of the young defensive backfield.
Collins is a vocal lifelong Commanders fan and he has said on multiple occasions how his favorite all time player is Sean Taylor. He’s also said it’s been a dream of his to be a Commander and he’s said before he doesn’t like Dallas.

Skins also have cap room I’d put my money on him going to Washington. Good luck to him lol

i don't disagree we need to make a push and be a little agressive now but it really depends. i'm not signing ET to a 5 year 70m deal just so i can get him this year and make a run. if you told me getting him guaranteed a sb i would think differently. no guarantees in the nfl and without them, i'm not mortgaging my future totally for 1 shot.

if we were talking about 14m annually for 2 years i might bite and overpay because it doesn't kill flexibility in resigning the core group of guys as their contracts come up.

you have to balance it imo.
