This is what happens when you don't build your team from the trenches out

..when you don't build your team from the trenches out. One or two injuries to starters and you end up with positions of weakness instead of strength. Both the offensive and defensive lines will have rookies, free agents and cast offs playing on opening day. I still think we can win with this lineup, but one or two more injuries and it'll be over. Just watch the pass plays when Romo goes back and has to do some magic becaue the play broke down because of pressure. Just watch the DL not get pressure on the opposing QB who sits back there with seemingly all day to make a play. There's only 1 person to blame for this predicament but unfortunately he'll never take the blame for it.

This theory has never been put forth here in the zone....

This is a new, original, refreshing point of view. It has a good beat and I can dance to it...I give it a ten. I also am glad it got it's own thread instead of it staying in an existing thread as that was not going to garner the same amount of attention for a Call Out.

So I see what you are doing and I say, you go girl...

If this was different for any other team, I'd say the Cowboys had a problem. There are few NFL teams with 9 top notch starter level Olinemen or 7 starter level Dlineman on their roster. Just like there aren't 32 good starter QBs in the NFL.

My point was only that in the salary-cap age every team is necessarily going to have thin spots in the roster vulnerable to multiple injuries.

That's just a cop out and is not close to being true. A teams philosophy, most teams, is to build from the trenches out. If you do that, you'll have depth at the offensive and defensive lines. Real depth.

They've drafted 2 OL in the first round over the last three years. Can we stop acting like they're not trying to improve the offensive line?

As for the defense. Spencer is out. Ratliff is out. Crawford is out. Brent is out. That's four quality players on the defensive line out on a year in which we're changing schemes, and the defensive line still looks pretty good. Not much depth because the guys that are playing right now are the depth.

Of course, we could've accounted for Brent via the draft, but if we had've done that then you'd probably be complaining about the OL not getting any much needed attention.

We're in a crappy situation because of the previous regime's drafting failures in '08 and '09 and just plain bad luck. Not because we're not trying now. You're complaining about things in the past.

Yes, but it bares repeating in light of what's transpired over the course of the off season.

please tell me how many teams would be in just dandy position if they lost their best DT and high quality defensive end while also losing their up and coming 2nd year player?

While doing that, using the same criteria, please tell me all of the teams that would still have a position of strength minus their starting Gs and vet backups.

I would love to hear this...

Dallas has used 2 1st rd picks on OL with Smith and Frederick they have used 2 1st rd picks on DL in with Ware and Spencer. Other guys who were high Picks Sean Lee, Bruce Carter so Dallas has used picks for the OL and defensive front. Yes we got a guy like Dez with a 1st rd it is hard to get those guys and when you get the chance you do it. This notion Dallas has not done anything is BS, could they do more sure but you also take from other areas. If all we did was go after OL and DL peple would be complaining about not getting the skill position that are damn hard to come by.

Yeah, I can't believe Jerry keeps ignoring the OL! He should've drafted a couple of 'em in the 1st round over the last 3 years!

And that lousy cheapskate has invested NOTHING on the DL! Ware, Spencer, Ratliff... nothing but inexpensive bums!

Jerry was forced to go first round due to the lack of higher picks and just as importantly GOOD picks over the lat 10 years.

for those saying we have done enough- show me another team that has only developed as of last year 2 starters in 8 years from draft choices. Gurode and Free were the only home grown O line starters we got from 2002 through 2010. Then came Smith. Has any other team done worse developing draft choices?

This for sure!! You can put all the "sizzle" in the backfield you want. However when all is said and done, it usually boils down to who has the 4th quarter trench strength to pull out the victory. Some NFL minds get it and others are too busy selling tickets.

Dallas drafted OL when BP was here as well those guys did not pan out, I guess it is Jerry fault because Parcells could not develop them? Jerry got what was asked for not his job to develop them into players that falls to these guys called coaches.

You could have an all pro front 7 on defense and play Pee Wee Herman at corner ..... and the result would be the same, just a different method of dying the same death. LOL
