Sounds like this guy was never properly motivated or just does not love the game.

4:07:23 pm "You can't skip ahead. You have to play a game this week, then you can start to worry about Tampa." Cowboys LB Bradie James when asked if the team had begun preparations for the regular season opener.
3:43:34 pm With Cowboys WR Kevin Ogletree being the talk of camp these last two weeks, WR Isaiah Stanback looks to be the odd man out. Stanback when asked about the importance of the Vikings game said. "It's just another game for me."
3:36:24 pm Cowboys coach Wade Phillips has the squad out in helmets and shoulder pads. Speaking of shoulder pads, WR Roy Williams has a bigger set on at practice today. Williams suffered a shoulder injury last week but is practicing today.
3:23:51 pm The Cowboys were awarded CB DeAngelo Williams off waivers yesterday from Tampa Bay but they were not alone in their claim. The New England Patriots also put a claim in as well but because the Cowboys record was worse in 2008, they had priority.
3:14:16 pm The Cowboys have added a couple of players to the roster to help get the club through the MInnesota game friday night. CB DeAngelo Williams was claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay and CB Jeremy Haynes was signed as a free agent.

So I guess you're saying that he's gone because he gave a stock answer to reporters?

He could have said this is the most important game of my career. I have to give the team a reason to keep me. He decided to play it low-key. I don't think this is indicative of any larger looming personality problem. Oh no, he doesn't care! Come on...

He wants to be a QB. Cut him and let him try that route somewhere else.

We have Ogletree, our “flavor of the month” or “Amendola clone” as some Stanback supporters suggested.

Yeah but apparently our coaches are too stupid to put him at RB. They want to see him at CB. :banghead:

Agreed.

To me this is the same as Romo's comments after the Philly loss. Way overblown. Gotta learn to give em what they want.

Thank you for that wonderful analysis. Please, can you share any more of your amazing insight with us?

Just as easy to interpret that as indicating that he is saying he's gotta take care of his own business and not worry about other guys on the roster.

Seriously, I don't think that Stanback's problems have ever been effort. Look at his freaking body. Good god. That guy clearly works hard.

I think that's a big issue with taking former QB's and trying to convert them into WR. Some guys, like Randle-El embrace the position change because they love football and just want to be a part of the NFL. Some guys like Stanback just don't have the desire and if there are any bumps in the road, they won't overcome them.

Funny how all of those critics spelled doom and gloom for Dallas' drafts when Ireland left and Dallas had a terrific '07 class w/o Ireland and Stanback was Ireland's biggest pet cats. Now Ireland works as Parcells' gofer.

Olgetree is way better than Amendola... I never saw the hype regarding Danny boy unlike a lot of people on this board.

Hmmm....my guess is that if he's actually gone soon, it's because he sucks at WR, and that we've found some young players to serve as a viable replacement to whatever the coaches were expecting him to offer on special teams.

I think most of your 'Stanback supporters' were just waiting to see more of both of them and don't want to form the roster on the basis of one game now two.

BTW, my opinion of Olgetree went from he looks good to he probably will make the team based on TC reports and the last two preseason games. And I agree he will not pass waivers for the PS. That and the fact he got first team snaps and Romo appears to like the kid.

It's amazing how many people take a few posts and think they know what others think.

I think everyone wanted to see what Stanback could do this training camp and preseason. We WANTED to see something...anything...improvement...something! He now has one last game to delay the inevitable.

Someone has some perspective of the whole picture. I think Stanback will be a reluctant cut if at all due to his being one of the core players on STs. He's on both punting teams and I think he has Keith Davis's old job on one. And he could be on the KR team as well. That's a core STs player. Plus, he's been a long term project that is really only in its third year at best. I would still bet right now Ogletree does make him the 6th WR.

We have the perfect examples of both situations right on this team.

Patrick Crayton embraced the opportunity, put the hard work in, and actually made the conversion within one year. He's the perfect example of that. Better than Randel El in my opinion.

Stanback never really wanted to be a WR. He would rather be a quarterback, and we've all seen rumblings that he doesn't put the necessary time, work, and dedication to the position.

Jerruh was very enthusiastic about Stanback so trying to pin this all on Ireland is a joke

...and if Stanback can prove to be such an asset to the special teams, then we have a win/win situation. I'm all for keeping him if he can make those contributions. I can't, however, see where anyone can make an argument for him over Ogletree based solely on those merits alone. I don't care if we keep sn extra WR, LB, S, or OL ...as long as they're the best player for that particular position.

That being said, I no longer have any hopes of seeing him pan out as a wideout....he just doesn't look good at it IMO. At all.
